So, how 'bout that Premiere? · 10:55pm Apr 4th, 2015

I gotta say, Pinkie was a lot more enjoyable in this ep than she has been in, well, a long time. The barrel of laughs reply had me laughing more than anything else.

Starlight Glimmer is just all-out sinister. 1984 called, they want their thing back. I'm eager to see how else (and how often) she appears in the rest of the season.

Definitely one of the best premieres and two parters of the show. Onwards to more glory!

Just watched it (I was at work when it aired), and I loved it. So stoked for this season.

Definitely one of the best premieres and two parters of the show.

All of my both of these, such good episodes, so much pinkie doing the good kind of pinkie things.

Definitely more hilarity than I've seen from Pinkie in a long time.

I'm surprised you say 1984, to be honest. I felt it had more in common with Animal Farm, particularly towards the end, with the unstated "All ponies are equal, except me, I'm more equal than the rest of you". Still, since both books deal with largely the same subject, you could argue that it bore resemblance to both.

All in all, a damn good episode and Pinkie surprised me with her antics this time around, too. I rarely laugh at Pinkie, but by god was the kawaii with her this episode.

I'd just like to comment - this wasn't 1984. This was Ayn Rand all over the place. 1984 was generally fine with people being different, as long as they obeyed. Rand's villains were allllll about the destruction of the exceptional.

Yeah, they did a better job with Pinkie Pie than they had been, and did a good job with Fluttershy as well.

I'm still disappointed the villain wasn't named Carla Marks though. Seriously.

Harrison Bergeron, man.

I'd say that was Amon and Kuvira merged together in a tiny, cute; yet full of hate, pony.

Ah, yes, that's the story I was thinking most of, though by Vonnegut rather than Rand.

Just finished it. Pretty cool. Felt a little... different from the rest of the series somehow, but maybe that's just 'cause I haven't seen an episode in for-friggin'-ever...

Also, Pinkie was actually making me laugh for a change. We're goin' places here. We're getting new characters. All is well.

Though, I admit, I was a bit disappointed that the girl's cutie marks didn't flit off in different directions, and each girl didn't get a story arc of their own.

Ah well. 9/10, just the same.

2948778 The director of S4 and S5 said something like "after the epicness of s4, we went for something more psychological". Which looks pretty accurate :P

I would like it to be one continuous story arc, if possible -- just to see what that might be like. We already have a villain set up to haunt us throughout the season. That's, admittedly, where I thought they were going. I thought the Six's cutie marks were going to disperse to the wind, and they were going to have to track them down individually, one arc at a time.

I really liked it. Quality, characterization, everything was well worth the wait. Pinkie especially... is it wrong that I like deadpan markless Pinkie more than her normal self? The barrel of laughs comment she made was priceless...

Something curious about this episode that's started to make me wonder... Warning for Spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen the premier yet

Starlight Glimmer stated that it was her magic that could strip ponies of their cutie marks, not the staff. Yet we see the staff clearly produce some sort of effect. So then that would mean some unicorns, likely exceptionally strong ones, don't have to generate magical spells from their horns exclusively, but can channel it through other mediums to the same effect. So that might actually make unicorn wizard staffs plausible now. I don't know why, but I rather like the idea of that.

Also, those four ponies, Double Diamond, Party Favor, Sugar Belle and the token pegasus need to become a thing. Like, right now.
