If you're one of the few people that are watching me, welcome! This is my first blog post, so expect some awkwardness in both context and structure.
Anyway, ever since Leap of Faith was featured on Equestria Daily, I've sort of strayed from writing fanfiction as much as I thought I would. Back when I was writing Leap of Faith, I remember all these crazy ideas that were in my head about future fics, and I couldn't wait to get started on all of them. Sadly, that didn't happen. You can thank a story that I've put on hiatus called "Lunar Recollections".
In my defense, the way I chose to write Lunar Recollections is through a mixture of flashbacks and walls of dialogue, which is a little to advanced of a writing style for me to take comfortably. The enthusiasm I had for Leap of Faith was lost as I continued writing Lunar Collections, and it became more of a chore than a hobby. Eventually, I realized this, and decided to put the story on hold until I become more talented in writing.
However, after I watched Sweet and Elite, I knew that Fancypants would be an excellent character to write about, considering his brief appearances and unknown background (he's an important pony in Canterlot society, and that's about all that's known). Success is a Journey was never meant to be as serious of a project as Leap of Faith was, nor did it have nearly as much inspiration. Anyway, I gave it a try and it came out looking better than I had expected. I submitted it to Equestria Daily in a fit of boredom.
It got much more criticism than Leap of Faith (Leap of Faith was almost perfect in the prereader's eyes; the only corrections he/she had me make were grammatical ones). Everything from plot and development, as well as tone was pointed out. This didn't turn me away from the story, of course, and after making my edits I decided to resubmit. Sadly, it returned with more criticism, this time more specific.
It seems as the prereader meticulously picked through my story for errors (I actually prefer this, it tells me exactly what they found wrong with it) and gave me a lengthy list of changes I would have to make before resubmitting it. At this time, I received an English assignment which probably ruined any chances of getting Success is a Journey edited and submitted by 2011. The English assignment in question was basically to write an epic (reminiscent of the Odyssey or the Illiad). Being a writer, I decided that the maximum 5 pages wasn't nearly as long enough to paint a tale, and I spoke privately with my teacher, who agreed to allow me to write as much as I pleased.
That was probably the worst mistake she made with the entire freshman year. The story's currently well over 100 pages on Microsoft Word (maximum 5 pages, psh) and I have yet to finish it. She was so impressed that she extended the due date for me, allowing me to simply submit three chapters a day to her instead of all at once. Over Winter Break, it was all that was on my mind, and more often than not you would see me slaving over my laptop, my hands flying over the keys.
I hope this explains my absence in the fanfiction community; there are still a lot of (what I think are) great ideas that I've kept in mind, including an extremely long story. Hopefully, after I finish this assignment, I will dutifully return to writing pony fanfiction. There might be things that come up (being a freshman in high school isn't easy, I'm sure all of you have experienced it first-hand), but none as long as the break that I had taken, which was about 4-5 weeks long.
