Rating of Doom · 9:04pm Jan 5th, 2012
Okay, it's really not a big issue, but this has been eating me for a little while. Let's start the bitching and whining (if you don't like either bitching nor whining, especially coming from me, don't read any further).
By now 'Pinkie's Doom Parade' has over a thousand views, yet I didn't get more than 6 ratings, and put together these are meager ratings, from a while ago, and the bad ones probably the deed of people who haven't even read past the introduction. What's up with that? Only one decided to illustrate their rating with a comment.
It looks as if I had to assume (making a donkey of you AND me) that all the other readers (including some of those tracking) agreed that the story didn't deserve more than 1.6 but were too polite to rate. Which is sad, but fair point, I can live with that. This collection is even more random than what I usually produce. Perhaps people would prefer a "WTF", "FAIL" or "LOL"-button in addition to the star system.
What is bugging me is the idea that maybe the 1.6 is putting people off and even if they would like to read the story, they won't, or better yet, they actually read the story (1014 > 6, after all) and feel it might deserve slightly more points, but succomb to the peer pressure from the former ratings (it happens, folks. Try reading a story thinking "6/6 people say this is lame" or thinking "6/6 people think it's decent". You might think you have read two different stories. Sounds sheepish but it's a well-known phenomenon).
It's a silly thought but none the less, I wonder, and it would be nice to see it debunked...
