Why I hate online sales: twenty-eight seconds. · 10:46pm Nov 27th, 2014

That was the time required for Amazon to sell out of the Blu-Ray The Lego Movie at their lightning deal price of $3.99. I went to the item's page, I clicked on 'add to cart', and instantly received the notice that I was on the waitlist, which is basically saying 'You're never getting this, but we're going to give you a scrap of delusion for not clinging to.'

I thought my connection was decently fast. My reflexes aren't horrible. I did sort of operate under the illusion that given Amazon as the seller, there would be at least ten available...

I generally try to pick up a few movies and TV seasons over the Black Friday (now Thursday) through Cyber Monday span. So far today, I've been closed out a lot. And some of that was pricing (no real sale) and bad timing (thanks for the phone call!), but a good part of the rest is... twenty-eight seconds.

I have the right to try again, of course. All I have to do is find the store which Amazon was price-matching, stand in line overnight while catching all sorts of viruses from those coughing around me, and then have a grandmother who knows a judge isn't going to give her much jail time anyway see me reaching for the shelf, followed by breaking my wrist with her cane. There are reasons I don't do Black Friday live in person, and saying 'She's lived that long, she should have used some of the time to learn a counterattack block' in front of a judge is around the middle of the list.

*shrug*

For the record, $3.99 was about all I was willing to pay anyway.

Really looking forward to getting electronically clobbered tomorrow.

I saw one pony item scroll through: a Rainbow Dash EG doll. No attempt made.

I kind of want to claim the lightning deal on Battleship just to be the only one in the world who did.

This wouldn't be so annoying if it wasn't an effective modern constant. Try to buy concert tickets online. Too late.

ETA: As I wrote the above, Amazon posted the Thank You For Being Part Of Our Joke notice. Gosh, that took a while.

And the funny thing is, Black Friday is actually peaceful down here. Crowded, but everyone seems civil and there isn't any fighting. Maybe it's just because I usually go around the "late" hours of 6ish.

They admitted the waitlist was for anyone who really wanted to stand around and wait. Sold out. Again.

Locally, we've had injuries and beyond. A couple of years ago, I emerged from the mall (during holiday shopping, but not on BF itself) to find I had a carefully-punctured tire. That'll teach me to signal my interest in a parking spot, wait for it to open up, and then refuse to let a speeding driver cut me off! The nerve of me!

'tis the season.

Hey, perpetual waiting lists are better than getting clobbered, maced and trampled at Wal-Mart, right?
