Hocus Pocus update: Scorpio's Apex · 7:57pm Nov 7th, 2014
Hello readers!
I'm posting this blog post on November 7th. Tonight happens to be the halfway point of Scorpio's portion of the zodiac calendar. For those of you reading Hocus Pocus, you might know it as Scorpio's Apex.
As luck would have it, I've been making rapid progress with Hocus Pocus in recent weeks, and now, both of my editors came through for me and gave me feedback on the next upcoming chapter as quickly as possible.
Later tonight I will be releasing chapter 18, which coincidentally occurs in Equestria during Scorpio's Apex. In other words, I'm releasing a chapter that occurs on the evening of November 7th in Equestria... on the evening of November 7th in real life.
So for those of you keeping up with the fic, keep an eye out. The next chapter is just hours away.
Happy Scorpio's Apex!

Excellent timing.
Wasn't expecting another chapter this soon, I think im gonna implode or something!
The plan is coming together nicely, yes it is.
So my birthday is scorpio's apex?
How fitting!
Huehuehuehue!
Awesome!
Well... you're a bit off.
The Earth has precessed over 30 degrees since the astrological dates were established, and they haven't been adjusted to keep up -- the sun is currently in Libra during the period we call "Scorpio". The central date of Scorpius is actually Nov 26.
But that's not all! As I just mentioned, a constellation's dates indicate when the sun is inside that constellation (roughly) against the backdrop of the stars. So when the current sun sign is Scorpio, Scorpius is on the wrong side of the sky to be visible at night. Scorpius would reach its apex in the night sky six months later, on May 27.
...so maybe this ought to be Spring term...
But that's just Earth, not Equestria.

Huh. Okay.
Im basing this simply off the Zodiac sign dates, as they were before the addition of Ophiuchus. I had no idea if that actually meant anything was Apexing or not. It just seems cooler in the story to have the evil constellation be right overhead on the date in question.
November 7th IS the halfway date of Scorpio's (pre-Ophiuchus) zodiac period. That much I can defend myself on at least.

Well, yes, the date I gave is when the sun is physically centered in Scorpius, which only barely touches the ecliptic. I'm not sure this would be the center of the one-twelfth of the circle assigned to Scorpio if you were doing it astrologically. Still, point stands that when we say "the sun is in Scorpius", it means the constellation is directly behind the sun.
Hmm. Though, this being Equestria and all, Celestia physically moves the sun around the sky, which means that sun signs would have to be calculated differently. ...But then the constellation that's at "apex" would depend on your longitude...
...my brain hurts.
Not that I'm really complaining, anyway -- it took most of two years for this particular fridge logic to hit me!
