Fanfiction Reading Update #160 · 9:17am Nov 7th, 2014
Holy shit, I just found out Disney's making a new Lion King series called The Lion Guard. As someone who was on the Lion King ride before joining up with ponies (dat forty part fanfic series that was never finished), I can feel the old ride calling me back with promises of new canon, fandom butthurt, and fanfics. The best part is, I'm not invested in it like I used to be, so if it turns out to be utter crap, it's no big lose to me. It's a win, win.
The hype train hasn't quite left the station, though, as it will be on Disney Junior and feature those same bullshit aesops that ponies have. Ponies are aimed at a similar demo and it's just fine so there's room for hype yet.
I catch up reading Bad Future Crusaders as the various subplots continue to churn on and Empress Twilight continues to set a record for longest absence in an evil!Twilight fic. Probability of [Grimdark] ending: 15%.
I also power through Withdrawal's unread chapters as it transitions from the [Dark] tag over to the [Slice of Life] tag with Luna and Twilight starting some sparring exercises. Let's just hope it doesn't go down the Duel Nature route and trigger a 8.0 jimmy rustling.
50,000 words in and A Device for Divine continues to pile on the confusion. It seems I know less now than I did when the story began.
Dawn's Twilight updates with the caribou deciding it would be brilliant to mimic Hitler and declare war on everybody. Either there's some superweapon they have, or their government is as inept as it is evil.
I voted for Possible Trackings.
Herald of Dawn is cut after one chapter due to a grimdark setting so over-the-top, it made me check to see if there was a comedy tag—anytime somebody gets their throat ripped out less than halfway through the first chapter and their leader's name is “Enigmatic Insanity,” it makes you check to see if a parody's in effect.
While a little rushed, Corruption of the Sun makes up for it by providing a very rare “Celestia sliding down the slippery slope into Tyrantlestia” plot along with some Twilestia thrown in for good measure. It's tracked for future updates.
The Twilight Years is also tracked thanks to a good old dose of evil!dark magic Twilight, or at least, the potential for it.
Should've had some Oneshots.
"Ultimate Power is Finally...Mine?” provides for a decent lighthearted fic utilization the Darling Do-Ahuizotl combo that's rarely seen outside of grimdark fics these days.
The Red Dawn, while being an okay spoopy fic, wasn't as good as I had thought it would be due to some weird Twilight/Celestia interactions and OP'd hypnosis.
And that's all I read for the day.

The butthurt for the Lion King series has already begun, because of the new cub. The Kopa fans have already flown into several outrages over it.
I have heard so many mixed reactions to Ultimate Power. I don't know what to think anymore. D: Guess I'll have to go figure it out for myself!
Wow. Thanks for blogging about Corruption of the Sun! Ya'll right tho, it is rushed. It was an idea that was originally how D=S-M was supposed to turn out. I didn't end up completely scrapping the idea and just thought: "fuck it, post it."

I'd consider it a pretty standard comedy oneshot. Certainly not the greatest humor I've ever read.
