Question from a fan. · 8:14am Nov 2nd, 2014
I wanted to share something with you all, a question from one of my many readers (I love you all) I hope he doesn't mind but you are all so wonderful, I'm sure he/she wont.
Volty Bolt asked, "Howdy I don't mean to bother you but um...When's Hope and Shadows going to update? If you could respond back rather quickly that would be awesome because I also wanted to know what is your method for writing such awesome stories."
I think it's important to note that they asked this question nearly 4 weeks ago.
This was my response:
I am so sorry for the delay in this response, life has been sucking as of late.
Well, I guess the latest chapter went up recently, so there's part of your question answered. As for the second, that's really hard to say. I read... a lot (and not just FimFiction). As such I've been influenced by a ton of different authors with their own style. That would be my first suggestion, read... a lot. Second, think of a story and simply write it down, then revise it, edit it, revise again, fill in gaps where you feel more information should be added, revise again, edit, read it through. Ask yourself, "Is this something you would want to read?" Read it through again, then ask yourself, "could I be more descriptive? Could I elaborate on this interaction or that sequence of events?" Revise again, edit... you see where this is going? I'm not finished with my stories either; All of them will be going through a revision and edit and possibly another revision and edit after I have finished with "Hopes and Shadows" (which my be broken into two separate stories, we'll have to see).
I know what you're going to ask. "If they're not done, why did you post them?" That's the thing isn't it, I thought they were done and my readers liked them so much, they wanted more and so I wrote more, then reading through my stories again after all this time, I've found that their are areas where I could have gone into more detail and elaborated certain scenes and sequences that would make the stories better. As you can see this is an ongoing process. In truth I may never be, "finished" with my stories; "Curse of the Werepony" has been revised three times though some may not see the differences, and I'll be revising it again. But that's part of the fun I suppose, I love surprising my readers with enchantments to the stories they already love and making them stories they love all that much more.
I hope this helps you, even a little. If there's more I can offer, let me know. You know, I may just put this in one of my Blogs, I hope you don't mind. Happy writing(and reading, that's always important).
The trouble with writing, is that you can easily feel that you're never done. You have to find a point where it's good enough and publish it. You'll always find more to polish and refine.
