    Remembering Koji Wada

Like every year, I like to remember the man/legend responsible for the theme songs of one of my favorite shows of all time on the anniversary of his death.

So if you were wondering about the timing for the latest Isekai chapters? There you go.

    Welp, here's a life update

These last couple of weeks have been a bit of a rollercoaster. Good things have happened, and also bad ones. No wonder I could relate to both Furina and Navia in the latest Isekai chapter. Sometimes pretending things are fine is really exhausting, even if they do get better.

Update to the Isekai coming tonight! And some additional details and change of plans.

First, to everyone waiting patiently for the next Isekai chapter, I apologize for the delay. I know there are a lot of people that want to see another visit to Hell happen soon, and it will, I promise. However, due to some circumstances, I decided for a different pair of visitors to visit the bar this week.

    Boost Reminder!

As discussed not too long ago, local legend and friend Skeeter The Lurker suffered some devastating losses that impaired his ability to work and live. We've all done well to get him close to achieving his objective, but he's still a bit short! Just saying, that if 10% of all of you awesome people that follow me donated a dollar

I was hoping for "if the price is right". :(

A.k.a. Sips' themesong

Excellent song from an excellent man.

I've been listening to "God's Gonna Cut You Down" on repeat for days. <3

2564894 And certainly much better than the original. Trent Reznor can't sell this.

Ah yes, Johnny Cash's Hurt...

This is the song(And video) that made me write my research paper on him for Rock and Roll History at my college a couple semesters ago.

Quite a powerful song to begin with, but he really killed it.

Funny thing, Trent Reznor was initially hesitant(though flattered) about letting him cover it since it sounded gimmicky, but after hearing Cash's version and seeing this video he quickly changed his tune.

Dibs! I call dibs on your empire of dirt! Or at least secondsies! :fluttershysad:

2565016 I've got mixed feelings. Cash sings it with more soul, but he simplified the chord structure and threw out the weird discordance that I liked.

Word on the street is that Trent liked Cash's version better than his own. He said it was like watching his girlfriend skip off with another man, but he couldn't be upset because it felt right. Paraphrasing, of course.

I was just listening to this a few days ago.

Better than the original.
RIP, man in black.

It always makes me think when I hear this song.
Requiascat in Pace, Johnny Cash. Your legacy will burn long past this century.

John Hurt's totally okay, man. He's not dead.

[youtube=AkWXlHm9h00]

John Hurt may be alive and well, but John R. Cash is deceased, defunct, the museum burnt down, the man in black wore his final suit.

In the space of 7 months Cash recorded "Hurt" his wife June Carter died and then he walked the line at the age of 71.

Nine Inch Nails does it better. Honestly, Johnny Cash's version is... boring.

This is one of my favorite songs. Best thing to listen to when you just want to feel blue.

I have a jar of dirt.

Shun the nonbeliever! SHUUUUN!

2565686 Shunning doesn't change an opinion. It just alienates thinking and promotes hugboxing.

You doin okay D?

2565623

Sorry. No.

Cash had that soul to it. You can't beat that.

~Skeeter The Lurker

2565861 Well, Trent Reznor made it not boring. Cash's voice is too gritty, and the chord structure was simplified, taking out the atmosphere and texture of the song. Cash made it another cut and paste "soulful" country ballad with a rough voice. Reznor had made an amazing conclusion to a heart wrenching and nerve wracking industrial album.

2566002 ew ponies
where do you think you are

2566223 Oh shit this isn't reddit!

2566223 this man knows what he's talking about.

2566223 Johnny Cash though actually lived the lyrics though

2566223

Last I heard Trent Reznor said he liked Cash's version better. Me I Like both; NiN's has that hesitant dissonance thing going on, and Cash's has a depth of sadness that beats you like a black hammer.

2566696 They both did. In different ways.

2566626

2566696 Um, so did Trent? Guy was basically at the forefront of really angst driven hardcore shit, along with some Nirvana at the time. Angst in harder music wasn't really popular back in the 90s outside of grunge, which wasn't exactly "hard" as far as rock went. People usually left the angst in gothic stuff or indie pop like The Smiths.

2566877 I'm not Trent Reznor.

Related:

For those not in the know,Trent wrote TDS while in a house where a murder took place, while contemplating suicide. This is while he was dealing with several hardcore drug addictions.

TLDR: You could never convince me that Trent didn't "live" every single song of The Downward Spiral.
