and as someone who did enjoy equestrian girls for what it is, rainbow rocks was simply awesome. only a fool could look at this movie and say it is JUST to compete with monster high now. there was far too much effort put into it this time around.

also yes sunset is adorable and well done as well. loved that there was still a cynicism to her overall even though she is seeking redemption. also liked that it was not an outright, everyone loves her now, thing by the end of the movie and simply that there were people who had begun to accept her.......... also bulk biceps being both the gym teacher and a violinist just works too well.
the one thing I really wanted to see in the first movie was sunset shimmer showing insecurity and jealousy,, hinting without telling that she was motivated by jealousy and anger, and perhaps even a deep pain over being replaced. most we got was hints she had deluded herself into thinking she was in the right, was good, and her holding herself before flying into a rage and attacking twilight.

When I read the title I thought it was about to be of Sunset Shimmer. Then I thought it could be of your story Sunset. Now that's where I got a bit scared. Until I realized it was about Sunset Shimmer. Ciroton you had me hook, line and sinker.

And yes I agree that Sunset was super adorable in Rainbow Rocks. In fact it was actually the best aspect of the movie. She goes through such an arc. In fact my favorite scene of the movie was when she and Twilight had a Bromance moment(If you saw the movie you know what I mean) . I was kind of shocked to hear from Megan McCarthy that that scene was almost an afterthought. Because usually scenes that are afterthoughts are pretty much filler yet in here it added so much to not only the characters but to the overall thematic of the movie.
This is pretty much the rare instance in which a sequel surpasses the original. It reminds me of movies like Superman II, Empire Strikes Back, Aliens, Terminator 2, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Dark Knight(even thought I'm not a fan of it). A sequel that's not only superior in terms of production, music, voice acting but in writing and story structure too.

In fact the movie is very similar to Superman II(The Richard Donnor edition). In that Rainbow Rocks starts almost immediately after the original left off and that the Dazzlings kind of resemble the Phantom Zone criminals from Superman II. Or maybe I'm just over analyzing it.

There is so much to love in the movie it's kind of amazing.

Also Sonata Dusk is the best Dazzle. Mostly because she loves Tacos and has awful taste in Rap.
