Happy Birthday, "The Living is Easy" · 12:32am
Dear Loyal Watchers, Interested Visitors, and Confused Passersby:
Ya' ever just write a fic to kill an afternoon?
Ya' ever try to pour all of your Victorian/Elizabethan writing style into one piece?
Ya' ever have a fic sent back to you by Equestria Daily?
Ya' ever pull an all-nighter patching it up?
Happy Birthday, The Living is Easy. Daddy is glad you came along.
I remember very clearly what it was like when I sat down to write this one. I was in my big overstuffed chair that I had dragged out onto my porch. It was the first fic I tried to write on my laptop. I discovered then that I much prefer my desktop for writing. Who knows why, eh?
It was also my first fic to be sent back to me by Equestria Daily, which was a touch of a shocker at the time. "You're trying to sound too smart," wrote the pre-reader, and under observation he was correct. The story had a grade-level reading of something like 11.5th grade and a reading ease of about 35%.
In case you don't know, that was abysmal.
I pulled an all-nighter and got it down to 10th grade and 70.0%, which is where it now stands. I can only imagine that the pe-reader was dubious to get it back so quickly, but in all honesty once i knew what the problem was it certainly seemed obvious, and fixing it wasn't that hard.
I had a beautiful fic about Celestia exploring her realm in a vision of the summer that was soon to come, and I was very glad that it emerged as it did. There's no real conflict, no angst, just a willingness of the sovereign to reflect upon the gifts her sun gives those who she views as her children.
In truth, I'm really busy in the summer. I head out this weekend to do stuff with the National Parks, and then I have BronyCon the weekend after. After that is a lot of work/ volunteer related items. Like last year, don't expect much from me for awhile... and when we get back together I'm sure you'll find the next few interesting to say the least.
Next birthday we'll celebrate? Somewhere in time's own space...
