Let's Talk Elements and Shimmers · 7:35am Oct 29th, 2014

So Rainbow Rocks was released out on DVD and Bluray today.

So I finally got a high-res version of this.

Which sparked some discussion on if there were a seventh element, if Sunset were it, what would it be?

I like the idea of the Element of Forgiveness.

Because that's the most important one of all. If you don't know how to forgive friends, then honesty, loyalty, laughter, kindness, and generosity won't have any magic at all.

How about you guys?

Why is this not in my deviantart favorites?

Anyway, Forgiveness is certainly something I could see her representing. It was certainly the first one that popped into my head. But, that also gives the impression that she knows how to forgive people which is technically something that hasn't been shown yet. So far, everyone else has forgiven her. I think it needs to be proven that it's a two way street before we can perfectly match her up.

Someone else has pointed out that it could be the Element of Redemption, which shifts the forgiveness frame enough to where I can see it representing her more. Forgiveness is important, but the first step in doing that is apologizing and trying to make up for what you did wrong, which is really where Sunset is right now. More or less.

I'm going to stop talking now before I start rambling.

Yes. This. 100%. While it's arguable that forgiveness could fall under loyalty (being loyal to your friend despite their actions), it definitely has a strong case for being its own element. The only reason I still have one of my closest friends is because of the times I've forgiven her entirely for some things she's done.

Also, that image of Sunset is giving me the weirdest fucking boner.

there can be no seventh element because the elements are stuck in the tree that was simply the magic of friendship

You make a good argument for Sunny on the Forgiveness front, but 2561940 made a really good point. She's got to be able to represent it first. I think Redemption would be a better fit, at least right now.

On a slightly different note, now that Twilight figured out how to get to the alt U whenever she wants, anyone else kinda hoping they do a season 5 throwaway/bonus episode where one of the other versions of the mane six stumble into Equestria (not Pinkie— we already had "Too many Pinkie Pies")? The ending of RR definitely set them up for a third movie, but I feel like it set them up for the possibility of an episode, too. At least, one that we can just pretend didn't exist, since I know a lot of people don't really want the universes getting crossed in the canon.

Example: complete reverse. Other-World Twilight goes to Canterlot High to investigate the energy spikes (or whatever she said) and falls through the statue into the castle. Shenanigans ensue (Spike— "Two of you? Changelings! They're back!" etc etc).

26+1 episodes in a season? I could see it (Also read: I can hope)...

I feel like this concept has been tried before, with The Great and Powerful Trixie taking the element of forgiveness at the time.
Yes it fits in rather well with the other elements. If there was another element, I could definately see it being forgiveness, or some itteration of it. (Mind, nitpicking over if it should be forgiveness/redemption is about on the same level as argueing over honesty/authenticity, good points can be made either way.)

As far as Sunset being forgiving, a running gag in the movie is the mane6 insulting Sunset "She demon! Oh, no offense." and Sunset forgiving them with "None taken." That's ignoring that Sunset never once held a grudge against the mane6 for not including her in the band, and immediately came to their defense when they needed her. Plenty forgiving I'd say.

All that said, by Faust, I hope there will never be another element. It would take the Equestria storylines even further down the bad fanfic path. (I greatly enjoy the movies though. :trixieshiftleft:)

I would think the seventh element would be Trust.

I also think it's absolute bullshit that they let Sunset Shimmer (and Snips and Snails, for that matter) anywhere near the school after she destroyed the facade and enslaved the entire student body, but that's beside the point.

I like Trust, that's a good element too. Heck, they even spend a whole episode on the importance of trust to a frienship. I think it was called, Green is not your color?

Did Snips&Snails really do anything that bad? Even when they were turned into demons all they did was fly around a bit. Bringing an Ursa to town was a worse offense than that. xD

As far as Sunset Shimmer, do you hold that the same is true for Luna? Both went power hungry for a while, both got zapped, both were allowed back to regular society. (Though we don't know if Luna faced the same stigma that Sunset deals with, except for Pinkie's antics on nightmare night.)

2564102 The difference being that Luna served her time. And regardless of what they actually did, Snips and Snails were still accomplices to what was technically a terrorist attack.

2565645
Luna did not serve her time, she escaped.

Unwitting acomplishes, transformed into demons. I think they get reduced accountability for that. All they knew was that sunset wanted a plastic crown, and never to question the only girl that talked to them.xD

2565653 I'm pretty sure 1000 years on a barren rock with no food, water, company, or atmosphere, followed by a full dose from the orbital friendship cannon counts as serving one's sentence.

As for Snips and Snails, they were still part of a bullying problem, and thus would still receive some kind of punishment.

2566092
Though it is a technnicallity, escape would imply her full time was not served, even if we might think it was good enough. It would depend on what the sentence originally was. Let's take Tirek as example. His crime was fairly simular to Luna's attemped. World domination in a way that would cause suffering to all living things. (after all, no sun, no/little food/warmth) Tirek's punishment appears to have been eternal imprisonment. He eventually escaped, but he hardly served his time. The only difference between the two is that Luna was reformed after her orbital friendship cannon to the face, and Tirek wasn't.

True, Snips and Snails assisted in bulllying Twilight, but that doesn't get one banished, it gets you speech and detention. (Granted, wrecking the decorations might have gotten them suspended, but noone knew it was them.)

2566145 Not just Twilight. It was clear that Snips and Snails had been doing Sunset Shimmer's dirty work for some time.
