Now I'll be fair here: I used to collect toys when I was younger, I mean, what pre-teen/teenager didn't collect 'em? But every time I see this commercial whenever I'm watching cartoons with my siblings...
I SEE THOSE DAMN COMMERCIALS!
I mean... What the hell Hasbro? If you're going to sell MLP toys, GET THE FUCKING APPEARANCE RIGHT! Celestia looks like fucking Cadence (and even that's stretching it), her hair is the wrong color, and her wings don't match with her body at all! She looks like a god damn Barbie Doll, except in pony form! Also...
Celestia: "My wings are so pretty."
Seriously... wat? That's all they could come up with when they were programming a voice box into the toy itself? What kind of drug were they on when they did this!?
In the next video, they ALMOST got Twilight Sparkle right. They got the hair color right, but she looks like Rarity with Twilight's hair color. And look at Applejack! For the love of... urgh... It seems the only character they even got REMOTELY right, is Spike. A fucking baby dragon. I guess they decided that adding colorful pretty hair would make him too girly or ugly. Bastards...
And this isn't just for MLP in general... This kind of thing seems to happen with a lot of Hasbro's toys. But god damn, whatever happened to accuracy and actual quality with toys!? Do toy companies just not give a shit anymore?
Just... just... ARGH!

FUCK YOU HASBRO
alright.
time to smack a filly.
do they even care?
It is a true story. And it is sad that it is done.
I think one of the reasons it works is that small kids are not that specific and won't complain like people with more development to their mind would about the difference in appearance.
Edit: i talk of small kids since that was the original targeted audience. probably toys meant to that audience as well
I know right, I don't own any ponies but, I do see the lame excuses of collectables. I mean, 'make a toy that is remotely and almost 100% like the replica, yet won't sell.' 'But make a toy that isn't remotely the same' sells like billions. I mean WTF.
HASBRO WHY SO LAZY WITH TOYS!

It's probably because that making them less accurate is better on mass-production costs. Less detail = less money to spend.

Yeah, it is aimed for kids after all. They don't pay attention to detail, they pay attention to 'what they are by name'. But that's like saying the same for every other toy out there... Like the Transformers toys for example. Most of the time, that toyline is pretty accurate, and they sell pretty well. I think this problem is just more in common with little girl toys.
Don't worry. It's just Princess Trollestia with some form of Pigmentation Disease.
I used to collect toys like you but then i took an arrow to knee
