I've been writing and selling stories for longer than a lot of folks reading this have been alive. Check Baal Bunny for more!

The Great and Powerful Zecora Approves This Message

I've been hosting:

The Darkling Eclectica over the airwaves at KUCI, 88.9 FM in Irvine since 1984--again, longer than some of you have been alive. Back when I started, CDs hadn't even been invented, so everything we played was either on magnetic tape or on vinyl records. This has had a number of effects on me including my continued reluctance to play anything that I can't actually hold in my hand. MP3s and all that digital stuff just doesn't do it for me, and every week, I lug a backpack full of CDs and an armload of vinyl into the station to present over the air.

Which is why I'm so happy these picture disks have finally appeared. Because I can now present "Your Moment of Pony" on the show: one Pony song every week, probably at the top of the second set 'round about 4:15PM here on the Pacific coast. It'll go well, I think, with the readings I'll be doing this fall from 4:30 till 5PM, too: just about all of Esther Averill's "Jenny Linsky" stories. I'm not reading the three picture books from the series 'cause, well, pictures don't do all that well on the radio...

That really is pretty swank. :pinkiehappy:

Spreading the good word, eh? :raritywink:

Oh my god you're playing the Goon Show :D

There's no archive of these broadcasts, is there? :B Any way to listen online?

Thanks!

Looking at the song selections, I probably could've skipped picking up the Celestia disk, but, well, "wretched excess" is my middle name. :pinkiehappy:

I open every show with a song that features the word "Goodbye" in the title as a way of bidding a fond farewell to any audience that might be tuned in. Listeners is the one thing I've fairly certain I haven't got...

There are online archives of Goon Show episodes--here's a link to one of my favorites, "Six Charlies in Search of an Author," though for folks unfamilar with the program, "The Dreaded Batter Puddling Hurler" might be a better place to start. They've got most of the episodes, I think, on that site, in what I'm guessing is a less-than-legal fashion.

I, of course, play them from a box full of twenty-five-year-old cassette tapes and even older LPs. But that's because I am a nerd.

My show, though, can't be archived due to those pesky copyright laws. But you can tune in to the station online Sunday afternoons from 4 to 6 Pacific time on KUCI's website--there's a "Listen Live" link in the upper right-hand corner of the main page. We just switched to our Fall Season this week, so alas, I'm not playing Goon Shows anymore--they're more a Summer thing, I've always felt. For the next ten or twelve weeks, I'll be doing readings from The Life and Times of Jenny Linsky, a buncha cute stories from the 40s, 50s, and 60s about a little black cat who lives with her master, Captain Tinker, in the heart of New York's Greenwich Village. :yay:

Zecora looks surprisingly good in Trixie's outfit. The animators should keep that in mind should they do another Nightmare Night episode.
