What time is it? Collab Time · 9:51pm Oct 10th, 2014
Question: How does one know that they are rusty as an iron gate left out to sea when it comes to writing skills?
Answer: When they haven't published anything new in a year.
Howdy guys, I got some news for ya. For those of you who don't know, I've been spending the last couple months working on a huge collab project with the Incredible Blunderbolt. And by huge, I mean huge enough to deserve all capital letters (i.e. HUGE). We've been outlining by taking turns "voicing" characters, which has led us down some interesting roads and even more in-character conversations, and the final product is over 150,000 words. Remember, this is all outline material only. Very little of this has been drafted into story form.
In other words, this is a massive project that Blundy and I have undertaken. But now that the outline is completed, we can start the actual writing process, and we're hoping that it'll be relatively quick since all the dialogue and most actions are already mapped out for us. I've already drafted most of the first chapter (just need to do some more revision and let Blundy and our wonderful editor Vertorm tear it to bits). It's been interesting, and I'm frankly grateful for Blundy's help considering I've been in the biggest writing dry spell of my life. What few techniques I had are sluggish and don't want to get out of bed.
How it's gonna work is that I'll be writing the first and second chapters, then Blundy gets the third chapter, then I write the fourth, and so on until completion. The beauty of this system is that since it's all been mapped out, we can write different chapters at the same time, so it should theoretically go quickly (*kicks his pile of university work under the desk*). We'll be publishing it here, on the TwiDash Collabs account, so keep your eye out! Here's a little teaser:
“But we’re going on a trip! Alone, remember?” Her voice filled with relief. Rainbow mentally patted herself on the back. “I can’t do it with one of our friends if we’re gone for the week!”
“Hmm... You have a point...” Twilight tapped her chin with a hoof, and Rainbow let out a sigh of relief. Her breath froze again when Twilight flashed her a wicked grin. “You’re right, I can’t expect you to seduce one of our friends, and sending you after some stranger doesn’t feel right. So...” Twilight batted her eyelids at Rainbow. “What about me?”
“Y-You?!” Rainbow’s face went white and she gaped at Twilight. “You can’t be serious!”
“Why not?” Twilight pouted before smiling slyly at Rainbow. She bumped Rainbow’s flank with her own. “Like you said, I can’t expect you to court anypony from Ponyville since we’ll be gone for a week. But that should give you enough time to get me to fall for you.” Twilight’s wicked grin grew as did Rainbow’s despair. “If you’re as good as you say you are, that is.”
