Oh, you Fathead. · 3:05pm Oct 8th, 2014

Up until this morning, my luck on this year's edition of the McD Monopoly game had been... 'miserable' would be a good word. I'm in this for the bonus MCR points, and I haven't won a single code in the online game. (I've peeled two.) All I'd wound up with beyond a bunch of Redbox rental codes which I generally wind up giving away was a pair of Shutterfly items which I already gave away because dear sweet pony gawds, Shutterfly.

(Yes, I know it looks like I just had a Spoonerism moment with our resident animal caretaker. It's actually a We Will Put Your Picture On Just About Anything service. Mugs. Magnets. Etc. Very reliable. Kind of overpriced. Extremely boring.)

But today, I had a hit. I won something which is one of the rarest prizes in the online version of the game. Only five hundred total available, which is the same quantity as the $50 Shell gas gift card. So obviously, anything on this level of scarcity has to be a pretty awesome prize, right?

It's a $14.99 coupon for Fathead. Includes free shipping and handling. No stacking with any other discount of any kind.

What's Fathead, you may ask? They sell wall decals of varying sizes. Mostly sports teams from all States levels plus a good selection of superheroes added to whatever boy band is current this week.

Oh, and ponies.

That's the complete current selection. Note the emphasis on Mandatory Pony Poses. (I swear Hasbro sends out a stencil and a style guide in legally-enforced triplicate.) And when you're done with that, note the pricing.

I've got $14.99 US. Plus free shipping. And no combinations with any other discount.

...or I could get a giant Adrian Peterson head and throw things at it...

Well, as nice as a bunch of gasoline might have been, how could it possibly compare to WallPones? :pinkiecrazy:

I, for one, am envious of your win. I would have to wrestle with myself whether to get it for my niece or myself... but the multi-pony set would mean we could share.

We'd have to have a competition of some sort over Pinkie, though. And... *sigh* she'd win, of course.

(Still trying to figure out why the Google Ad for this page is the Crowne Plaza)
Wow, those S1-3wall decals are pricey. (checks other sites) Wow, wall decals in general are pricey as heck. I still don't have any McD points because I'm a cheapskate, and nothing on the dollar menu has them :pinkiehappy:
(Hm, I had to preview before I could post. Bug or feature with the new site?)

Shit, I've got 99 problems, but overpriced wall decals aren't one of them. Personally, I'd go for the dry erase mini figures. They're not too expensive.

Still, congrats on winning! :rainbowdetermined2:

It could be worse. It could be last year's $10 EA coupons. (Order directly from them, limited and mostly out-of-date selection, all prices are Manufacturer's Suggested Full Retail and by the way, no stacking. Select parts of the Internet rebelled.)

Hash browns and, depending on your area, potentially all coffee and soda sizes. But that's about it. Most Monopoly players on a budget send in SASEs or, for those who don't have to show up at work smelling flower-fresh, memorize when their local franchise doesn't pick up the garbage. Which can turn into a 'let the punishment fit' situation. I have no objections to skimming a piece-bearing soda cup at the absolute top of a refuse bin, but with my clothing, work requirements, and general lack of resistance to the vomit urge when digging down through half-eaten remnants of Special Sauce...

....I did not bolt for a sink just now.

The joke here is that if you're serious about buying the full pony set, I shouldn't offer you the winning code. Going to the front page shows that spending that amount gets you 25% off with their offered promo code (same location). But again, the discounts don't stack. Depending on the shipping charge, you could easily pay more through using the McD code.

That's some careful price plotting they've got there.

Oh! Oh dear... I get it now. I thought you meant you could get any one Fathead for $14.99, not a $14.99 non-stacking discount amount.

The latter does, indeed, suck unless it can apply to the Dry Erase Teammate, which then becomes $5 shipped and is, while not as amazing as the full wall decals, kinda nifty.

But yeah, that's a pretty non-generous prize, especially for such a rare one. Bah! :twilightoops:

Why the heck are wall decals so expensive? That's nuts!

Supply and Demand doesn't quite work like it used to. Nowadays it's all about optimizing income(sure, they could halve the price, and get 90% more purchases, but that's still a loss, so :v)

That's how supply and demand has always worked. Selling twice as much but making only 90% of the profit isn't valuable to them, though on the other hand that assumes a monopoly, as in non-monopolistic situations, the true lower bound is defined by whether or not someone else is willing to undercut them. For example, Apple makes a lot of money off of its overpriced products, but constantly loses out on market share to Microsoft, which constantly puts them on edge because their position in the marketplace is forever under siege from below.

I was expecting something more dissertationy.

Oh, there we go.

I ran it through a test checkout on one of the more expensive pieces, just in case your initial definition turned out to be the right one. Sadly, it just took off $14.99 plus $9.99 shipping. So on the whole, I have won svck.

It is possible to get a freebie here: a small team logo can qualify. But for anything worth having -- for the wall decal 'I should think about using this, right?' value of 'worth' -- there's gonna be a cost.

I keep thinking that if they really want to make some money off of this Monopoly thing, they need to trade around how rare Boardwalk and Park Place are.
