Howdy!

So, with October starting, I am beginning another round of insanity in the form of a NaNoWriMo attempt. Normally, NaNoWriMo is a November thing, but Novembers are usually sorta bad for me, and my normal family obligations around Thanksgiving kinda murdered my last attempt (seriously, I’m looking over the spreadsheet I kept last year and that week of traveling basically sunk it singlehandedly). During that last one I went a little bonkers, and I expect that to be true again, but that’s sort of the fun part, right?

Right?

Anyway, last time I did one of these brutal months, I blogged about it weekly. Of course, last time I was going for 50k words of pony, so it fit in with my general pony-writing production blogs. This time around I’m working on original fiction, which is something I’ve been threatening to do for a while. Actually, the reason I’m doing this at all is it was suggested to me that all the constraints of NaNo would be good for forcing myself through all the general neuroses that comes from starting original fiction (which totes worked; I knew the first page would be the hardest so I sat down and agonized it out to have a base to work off and not cripple the first day of writing with trying to get it started. That’s a page that didn’t exist before due to neuroses, so it’s already a win).

As a result of it being original fiction instead of pony…I dunno that y’all would care to hear weekly updates about it. I feel bad, because my profile here has been sorta gathering dust, and embarking on this original fiction thing isn’t exactly turning that trend around. When I need a break from the novel (which I most assuredly will), I’ll be writing more pony, but I dunno when that’ll be exactly.

So if I blogged weekly about how NaNo is going, will anyone be interested in hearing about it? Or would it be annoying? I’d like to be a little more involved in the site instead of just disappearing for another month of silence, despite not actively writing pony. I’ve considered blogging more in general, but I don’t have much pony-related to talk about at the moment (I have zero interest in the Equestria Girls spinoff stuff), but I’ve blogged plenty about writing in general before, so this…almost counts? Right? It would at least help kill that “Fuck, bats disappeared again,” thing.

So yeah, lemme know if that would be obnoxious to see through October. I’ll probably go with Saturday updates if I do, since the month ends on a Friday (also of note, since NaNoWriMos are traditionally on a thirty day month and October has 31, I’ll be aiming for 51,666 words total). My two year site anniversary is coming up next week and I’ll be writing another introspective thing like I did last year, but other than that I’m gonna be wrapped up for quite a while in stuff that doesn’t have horses in it (the horror).

Welp. October has now officially started for me, so I’m off to start writing. Put on your game face, bats.

Close enough.

TTFN.

Bad Bats, Baaaaad. Need TwiDash fix. ... where's a damn wink icon when ya need it. Oh wells.

Good luck on original fiction, kicked my ass hard last time I tried it.

I'd enjoy reading your original fiction updates.

I'd be interested in the blogs. Even if they end up not terribly interesting, there will only be 4-ish of them anyway.

Simply blogging about writing itself would, I feel, be a great thing to present for us all to read. Maybe you could even do a bit of the contrast between what you're writing and how it differs from fanfic writing, much the way Bookplayer did only in more of a "this is my experience" sort of way instead of her "here are my thoughts and theories" way.

You could always put cute little Twilight Sparkle pictures at the end of each blog to shamelessly and shallowly make them more pony.

I am constantly tempted to sign off everything I ever say to anybody with this image...

Obviously, what you need to do is take your original fic and then file some numbers back on. :trixieshiftright:

Tempting, but then I'd be writing about OC ponies, and ain't nobody want that. *shiver*

It must be something in the TwiDash water but you don't seem to be terminal yet. When you begin to feel the urge to delete your stories use the last bit of will power you posses to change your login credentials instead to stop yourself. :rainbowlaugh:

I'll be waiting for the next LotR trilogy to shape up by November.

I say do it and you better make sure to tell us where we can find it once you're finished.

Why do you resist this temptation? :rainbowhuh:

I'd totally love to hear how your spooktacular October NaNo is going! Bring on the blogs.

2498258 Pff, that ship has sailed, my friend!

Will there be cute lesbian kisses?

Dunno. There might be. I'd hate to close that option off.

Yeah, I'd read your blogs for your original fiction. I'd also want to read the original fiction itself. It'd be exciting to see you write again, no matter what it's about!

Considering I tried this myself like 3 years ago, I'd like to read to see how you do.

So I'm going to assume this story is completely devoid of actual ponies... right?

My two year site anniversary is coming up next week

Wait a minute. Are you... you are newer to the site than I am! Only by a few months, but still. I'd always assumed you had been around forever.

Christ, I'm an old fogey.

Anyway, blog on, I say. Any words is good words.

I was late to the fandom; I started watching some point after the S2 finale, and started writing a short while before the S3 premiere.

The weird part is that now means I've been involved in the fandom for longer than I wasn't involved in the fandom. FiM turns 4 years old this month and my involvement is slightly over two years altogether. Even taking into account 'number of episodes,' halfway through S5 there will have been more episodes that premiered while I was paying attention than there were when I started. My statement of 'late to the fandom' is rapidly becoming less and less accurate.
