    Where I'm at now.

I couldn't tell you why I still have a FIMFiction tab open on my browser, and I can't even tell you the last time I clicked onto it. I think it's realistic that posting this is the last major activity I'll grant the site.

    Ten years today.

According to the info blurb beside my name, this is the ten-year anniversary of this account. And to think, this all started with me doing self-insert riffs on bad MLP fiction. And now I've got two finished stories under my belt, a crossover atrophying in a forgotten corner, and two other projects completely pony-unrelated I've finally put some words down for*. And also the last vestiges of my

    F/F/T3K19 THE SORTA FINAL

Last month's riff is complete. Enjoy.

This month, we're finally, finally finishing that riff of a riff we started god knows how long ago. We've spliced in a tiny Christmas story in there too.

F/F/T3K19 10/4: When the pasta is creepy.

Alright, we didn't exactly intend to slow down quite this much quite yet, but that's how we're gonna roll now. Here's last month's riff.

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BLOG BEFORE DEEMING IT A HATE/ATTACK BLOG. You're going to get the wrong impression if you only skim the beginning of it.

That said, RealityCheck is a cunt.

I'm not kidding. He's arrogant, he's bigoted, he's spiteful, he's a hypocrite, and he's lately been prone to soapboxing in his own work. His claim to fame on this site was to make a verse out of a polarizing fandom cornerstone, and outside the fandom, he's just as much of a pissy lolcow as Chatoyance, only without the persecution complex. And he's apparently within the same (middle-)age range, give or take a decade, so if anyone wanted to play matchmaker...

He's recently posted a story on the site. I'm not going to link it, and considering the diverse range of groups it's been added to, I'm betting I won't need to anyway. The story itself is... underwhelming and a little insulting. I UNDERSTAND the appeal of "fix fics:" maybe canon does something that pisses you off, and you have the impression that you can write out a much better outcome/scenario. The big problems with that, though, are:
- Unless you pull a Mykan and absorb yourself in your own fictional universes to the point of believing more in them than the real goddamn world, you can't actually alter canon within the official work. As such, fix fics are mostly an exercise in wishful thinking.
- You have to actually show more respect for the universe and its canon than you think the series writers did. The story RC posted is attached to his Nyxverse and completely shits on the very real threat Tirek posed. He wrote the pony version of Godzilla's Revenge without the dream aspect, and turned Tirek into fucking Gabara.

And... yeah, I know a lot of the people who look at the story, and likely any future story he writes, are going to see red based on his outspokenness regarding his repugnant beliefs. RC may have forever doomed himself to story votes that imply mediocrity. His adherence to a VERY love-or-hate character for his signature verse doesn't help, though he's still made his fans.

BUT.

As much as I may think he has it coming or clearly deserves it, the amount of abuse being thrown his way isn't going to help anyone's case. You're giving him a perfect excuse to be completely indiscriminate with what comments he deletes because people will come in later and assume it was ALL hate he deleted. I actually saw a very well thought-out grammatical critique get wiped and have RC claim it was a hate comment, and people who didn't see it BOUGHT IT until the writer of the comment actually came back and explained their kind intent.

RealityCheck is on my list of people I'd love to see leave the site, either by will or by force. A tidal wave of hate is not the right kind of force. All it actually does is make him look like some sort of martyr to his followers and make him think his holier-than-thou attitude is being validated. As ugly as comment deletion looks for any author, the comments he's leaving up aren't making the people who hate him look any better than him.

Trust me, he KNOWS a lot of rational people on the site hate his fucking guts. Stop making yourselves look irrational by blindly flinging shit his way.

Don't encourage the monkey by throwing your shit at it as well.:pinkiehappy:

2485086 ...I'm stealing that and using it from now on. That's a perfect comparison.

Fallen Prime being reasonable? What has the world come to!?

:trollestia:

Let's say it; I like RC's story's. But that doesn't mean I like RC. I ignore his blogs and almost never look into the comment section. Does this mean I'm a bad person, that I like the works of someone I (and a lot of other people) don't like?
But the reverse also happened to me. I (and again, a lot of other people) don't like the new Transformer movies, all of them. But I once see a interview/docu about Michael Bay and he seemed like a nice guy. The program didn't talk much about his movies and mostly about his life and directional skills but I liked him.

2485137

I swear honestly he used to be decent >.> dunno what happened maybe a troll took his skin and is posing as him now.

2485175 Or maybe he's site-famous enough that he thinks people will put up with whatever he does. I think, if he ever came off as tolerable, this is the mask falling off.

2485203

Why would that be? Why couldn't it conceivably be a mask put on but that's just arguing semantics :P

Ego is only good if you have Duke Nukem there is a lesson in here somewhere but the only one I can think of is Forever sucked Duke needs a better game.

Well then, I agree. A lot. I really want him to leave.

I follow RealityCheck, as well as a few dozen (see: close to hundreds) of totally random people, a significant portion of which are banned users, but plenty of whom are also active users.

It doesn't take much to get a follow out of me; something just seems right to me about the person, and I click that button and hope for the best. To date, I have only unfollowed one user, because they were very active, wrote stories I wasn't interested in, and wrote blog posts specifically pertaining to those stories and nothing else--i.e. boring.

RealityCheck, for all his imperfect views, still has very deep-seated and powerful reasons for seeing those imperfections in the manner he does. It's like talking to someone else who only sees the world through a kaleidoscope; the colors and the refraction and all is totally different for them, but it's how they see things, and just because you don't see the same colors and refractions, that doesn't mean their eyesight is bad. It's just different, and talking about why it's different can be beneficial to the both of you.

The part of this that I find saddening is that RealityCheck's opinions have become a circus to passersby so that they may throw their peanuts and laugh at the guy who doesn't have post-modern liberal opinions on the internet. I don't agree with him, but that doesn't necessarily make him wrong, because I'm not always right, and majority opinion doesn't make someone right.

RC holds the opinion of the minority here, and that means that society won't find a problem with him being bullied. In fact, he seems to thrive off the bullying. If it wasn't for the attention everyone gave him, he'd just be a guy with an opinion--which is why I follow him and read the things that he says. I want to read his opinions, not his stories. :trixieshiftright:

How do I upvote a blog?

2485363

becoming

Ralph has been a dick for forty years.

2485175

No, he's always been this bad. Encyclopedia Dramatica has had an article on him since 2006-2007 or so.

2486318 Hence my reference to him as an offsite lolcow. Isn't he just adorable?

2485316
Most of the time the issue isn't that he has those particular views.

It's that he's often a complete dick about expressing them.

2487027 Little of column A, little of column B.

2487027
If, by complete dick, you mean insistent, yeah. I tend to be condescending to those whose opinions are wrong, too. We can't both be right about these things, but we both think the other person is wrong for believing the wrong things.

Nobody wins and shit stirs up quick in that kind of environment. Learning when to back down, even when the other guy is wrong and being mean about it (boo hoo), can lead to some very introspective instances.

It's in our nature to color our opinions as white and color other opinions as black. Sucks that the world is only shades of gray, though.

2486318

I agree yeah. but what i'm getting at is recently hes gotten a lot worse.

I don't want to argue about it though ^_^ also encyclopedia dramatica arin't those the people that put everything into a negative light? unless it's trolling.

2487718 Typically, when it's unsavory individuals, they're spot-on. Ultra-trollish and antagonistic in their wording, but not inaccurate. Articles on these people can get pretty long too; hell, Chris-chan takes up not only a number of SUB-pages on ED, but an ENTIRE SEPARATE WIKI.

2485137

Does this mean I'm a bad person, that I like the works of someone I (and a lot of other people) don't like?

No, not necessarily. People still revere Michael Jackson's music despite the scandal surrounding him in his last years. Lord knows people are still entertained by Game Grumps despite Egoraptor making himself look like more of an ass on social media with each passing month. And you're allowed to still like Ender's Game despite Orson Scott Card's public homophobia.

...though there are gays who've boycotted his books and the new movie, so maybe he's not the best example.

2485098
2485086

I'm stealing it, too. Along with the Gabara remark.

2485137

It's called "Death of the author" where you seperate the man from the work. For instance, I love Beatles music, but I heard John Lennon beat his kid. I have a deep love of Star Trek, but there are things that I disagree with about Roddenberry. And I may dislike Goyer, but I love Dark Knight.

You can love a work without respecting the author and what he does.

I like The Audience but that man's soapboxing is annoying as hell. His habit of treating everyone with a differing opinion of him like shit is really off-putting too.

Thankfully, I stay away from his blogs and just read his stories.

2487353
No, he's a dick. He's extremely condescending when he isn't straight up insulting people, even if they made the effort to be polite when disagreeing with him. I can put up with people that don't like gays--the fact is, some people are just really uncomfortable with the idea, even if I think they're being ridiculous. What I won't tolerate is things like describing them as "obsessed with screwing their own gender," because aside from being really insulting it shows that for all his talk of rationality he's not willing to see anything from another viewpoint. He's also quick to accuse atheists of being sociopaths (specifically claiming that any atheist that can escape the consequences will kill someone just because they could). That's not being insistent, it's being a cunt.

It's entirely possible to hold your ground without being a dick. I had a pretty lengthy debate on this site about whether it was possible for a gay person to will themselves straight (later it turned into an evolution vs creation debate, but neither of us understood evolutionary theory enough to keep that up). We didn't insult each other, didn't belittle each other's viewpoint, and when we abandoned the debate I found I'd actually gained respect for them compared to when we started. RealityCheck does not have this effect, because as soon as I disagreed with him about something he insulted my intelligence and refused to address my point at all.

2536821
Admittedly, you usually lose respect for someone who seems to feel you're a lost cause in the first place. RC likely sees his opinions as apparent truths--as in, if you don't see it, you're deluded. Let's not talk about hypocrisy, because that only teaches us that some are stupid without realizing they're stupid, and we can glean nothing from that.

Alternatively, RC could be doing the exact thing you're condoning on purpose. He's become something of an internet celebrity due to his personality... and remember, this pre-dates the brony fandom. He's been arguing his crap for longer than a good number of us have. There have been points where he's been caught, and he simply says, "I'm right anyway."

Maybe he gets his rocks off to pissing everyone else off. Maybe he sees what he's doing as a service of revealing the truth to those who aren't so blind they can't see it. Either way, you're not going to get through to him, and coming into a conversation with him expecting him to budge an inch or learn anything from the altercation is an insult to his stubbornness that has made him famous. RealityCheck admitting he's wrong is like getting a unicorn as a pet.

2538936
Oh, I've completely given up on getting him to see reason. You're exactly right when you say that he sees his opinions as absolute truths, although I admit a lot of people are bad for that to some degree. My issue with him is his unwillingness to reconsider anything important ("important" being based on how much he cares, in this case) and his hostility towards people who disagree or don't understand. Even when I'm discussing something I think should be incredibly obvious, I try to give people the courtesy of assuming that they just missed something or haven't ever really thought about it. RealityCheck doesn't.

2539074
I agree with you on all points. That doesn't mean you can't still learn something from him.

Congratulations. RC has left. All his stories are now on a rival site. So no more Nyx's Family, Cheerilee's Class, The Great Alicorn Hunt.

I hope you're happy, because I'm not :trixieshiftleft:

3663144 Oh, I'm thrilled, but I'm not sure why you're telling me this on a post about a shitty thing he did a year ago.

Heh. Funny thing, RC didn't actually leave. He took his stories off this site because of "harassment", but he's still around to offer his own brand of criticism.
