Shinzakura: I have now learned a new meme which I would like to express: Fuck this gay earth.
Cody MacArthur Fett: That sounds both juvenille and . . . No, that's it.
Shinzakura: Yes, it is. But given the stupidity that I am watching, it's worth saying that.

Cody MacArthur Fett: What's going on now?
Shinzakura: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l59cg62wqpY
Shinzakura: (has nothing to do with {other issue we were discussing}.)
Cody MacArthur Fett: Is it terrible anime? ;)
Shinzakura: I have just been witness to quite possibly the most stupid genre shift in an anime EVER, along with the included details.
Shinzakura: OH FUCK YES.
Shinzakura: Okay, picture this. Sci-fi anime. Typical teenagers, sent in to fight the aliens that have started to invade Earth and have wiped out most of eastern Asia. They've already taken over most of Japan.
Shinzakura: The remaining forces (including our heroine) get sent in to do the job. They lose. Badly. REAL BADLY. The mechs Japan has can't cut it and she loses all her squadron and almost dies herself - she's saved at the last second by reinforcements from the USN.
Shinzakura: the anime is shown fairly realistically, and has a "loss of innocence" feel to it. I was impressed.
Shinzakura: Cut to ep 3. Three years later. Japan is a memory. The UN military (where the fuck did that come from) has built a base in Alaska (the Yukon - which is in FUCKING CANADA, IIRC) to showcase the best mechs in the world so they can build a brand-new frontline mech to beat the aliens.
Shinzakura: Well, they decided to base the new mech NOT on the USN mechs that saved the heroine's ass, or the Russian mechs that have so far held off the aliens from conquering western Asia.
Shinzakura: NO, they are basing the new mech off the JAPANESE mech that was stated in the first episode to be "subpar, but the only thing we got."
Shinzakura: Furthermore, the gritty war story has devolved into a harem anime where the heroine get surgically grafted to the idiot ball. Oh, and she's in charge of the test squadron despite being on a US/Canadian/UN/what-the-fuck-ever base.
Shinzakura: I can't even make it thorugh the third ep because I are ded from the stupid and I still have 21 more eps to go.
Shinzakura: so FUCK THIS GAY EARTH.
BlueBastard entered chat.
BlueBastard: It's like WWI took place in my backyard
Shinzakura: i think I just silenced everyone with my rant.
BlueBastard: Well, I just got back from showering, so all I know is the random "FUCK THIS GAY EARTH" that just popped up on fimfic
Shinzakura: Shinzakura: (has nothing to do with GamerGate.)

BlueBastard: Looks like you might need to go full MST3K here
Shinzakura: Oh, I'm going to carve its fucking bloody entrails everywhere. I'm going to go completely Chaucer on this damn thing.
{Other person not on Fimfic}: why
Shinzakura: Because it is a thing which should not exist.
Shinzakura: Because there must be someone to stand at the parapets of the flagging bastion of good taste and say "NO. FUCKING. MORE."
Shinzakura: And because if I want to get paid for this freelance review, I have to review the whole series. No one said I had to give it a positive review.
BlueBastard: you're getting paid for this shit?
Shinzakura: You thought I was going to watch the rest of this for free?
Shinzakura: basically, I'd rather eat these: http://wataridori.megamistudios.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/10689428_10152274900611651_7965539493633956525_n.jpg
BlueBastard: I wasn't aware you weren't doing that out of any requirement other than something to do about promoting the new blog
BlueBastard: honestly
Shinzakura: No, that was the plan originally. Thursday, however, a friend of mine who knows about the blog told me that a contact is wiling to pay me to review it. I spent the whole morning signing a contract.
Shinzakura: Basically, it's a five series review. I can review whatever the fuck I want, but it has to be at least 24 eps and it has to be nothing worse than ecchi. if they like it, they'll contract me for more.
Shinzakura: But right now, after having a fuckhard time getting through the third episode (I made it to the halfway point after giving up repeatedly over the past couple of hours), I'm really wondering what the fuck I just got myself into.
BlueBastard: That's why you should go all-out MST3K here
Shinzakura: I can't. It has to be a review. Which is why I'm just going to Chaucer instead.
Shinzakura: and FTGE has become my favorite phrase in the past fifteen minutes.
BlueBastard: What about just as personal commentary while you actually watch that shit?
Shinzakura: That's basically what I meant.
BlueBastard: Well, then only one question remains: Worse than Scootamom Y/N?
Shinzakura: It's like starting off with Platoon and then switching right into Tenchi Muyo!
Shinzakura: So not quite yet, but it's got 21 eps to prove me wrong.

Which anime? I was worried you were talking about Aldnoah.Zero at first as I haven't seen the latest episode yet and it's been my favorite anime so far this season.

2470703
Watch Aldnoah.Zero - that's an anime worth watching and having watched the season closer today, I will honestly say I am wholeheartedly waiting for S2.

The other one shall remain nameless because I wish not to harm you all. Remember: liberate tutamae ex infernis.

2470710 I do watch Aldnoah.Zero. I just haven't seen episode 12 yet. Somehow it's using standard anime tropes, but using them to make you think you know what's coming, then doing something different. I really like AZ's execution of those expectation sucker punches.

I'm really enjoying it thus far. Especially because the Martians remind me of the baddies in Space Battleship Yamato 2199. That show is fantastic. Watch it if you haven't.

2470651
Not one that I recognize, and that would would certainly one that I remember... yeah I can see why you are pissed, hell I would be too.

Seriously though what series is it?
2470703

*looks up the series* Sounds cool but I don't think I can get around the whole Moon blowing up thing

2470829

Yeah, absolutely love Yamato 2199. It's priceless.

2470904
Don't sell A/Z short. Damn good series.

And seriously, you don't want to know which one. You will be safer that way.

2470959
Suspension of disbelief being an issue, sounds like a really good series just can't get past the Moon blowing up.

Lets see.. *searches ANN for Mecha, Romance, SciFi, and Harem* So far nothing... damn can they do a mecha series that doesn't have a teenager being the goddamn hero?

2470981
Well, this comes from the first part of my review on the series:

{The Show Which Shall Not Be Named} is a war story, told in the contemporary Japanese way (i.e. “The world’s nearly conquered by aliens, so let’s throw high school students at the problem until we win yay go Japan!”)

Yeap, you can't spend a single day in Venezuela without losing faith in people :ajbemused:

2471017
In some cases its justified, in most it's not... yeah the plucky teenager is going to single handely win the great war that the most brilliant military minds can't win... probably why most of my anime collection are not military series

2471027
Seriously, that would be A/Z, but I like the fact that it's presented in a realistic manner. But stuff like STSNBN, uh, no. :ajbemused:

2471051
Still not convincing me... though I did get past my Suspension of Disbelief with Attack on Titan

2471054
Fair enough; not every series is for everyone (as I get older, I grow more and more weary of retread harem anime series.)

2471103

Point to you, I get turned away from series that basically use fanservice as their main selling point. Some are good, some are bad, and others I really wish I didn't see. Though are some cases of fanservice that aren't bad, if they like Girls und Panzer in regards to tanks, fanserivce doesn't need to be about girls with large tracks of land it could be about tanks

2470981 If you can't suspend your disbelief that the moon exploded, you're probably not cut out for anime. Moon explosions are pretty tame to be honest.

2471149
Some cases I already know the series is over the top, thus blowing up the Moon (or pulling it out of Hammerspace) is shrugged off

I kinda put myself off of anime in general because of cliches like that.

...And more importantly any "badass" character making me immediately scream "you dirty red and black alacorn!" and throwing someone's TV out the window.

Not mine of course, but I'm sure people don't appreciate it.

2470632
I didn't make the meme, I only used it. And there's something inherently hilarious about subverting the Universal Studios logo to give a big FU.

Shinzakura: Because there must be someone to stand at the parapets of the flagging bastion of good taste and say "NO. FUCKING. MORE."

Damnit, where the hell is my Edit Signature button.
...what do you mean FiMFiction isn't a forum?

Well, A little while ago I felt similarly, when I entered a mostly gay forum and suddenly discovered that I was defending myself for being straight. I could have trounced the discussion (starting from the argument that the gay community have few enough true non-gay supporters and cannot afford to alienate them for not caring for being buggered), but I just left it alone once I decided that I didn't wish to risk a ban.

i feel for your bad anime experince:applecry:
now i didn't spend tens of dollars on a cyber weasel squad for you to whine about that.
get to work on AAG be for blue makes me drop 8 bucks a Equstria girls 2:trollestia:
