Friendship is Card Games: Mane Event

So, as I have come to understand, the main G5 IDW line has been replaced by/subsumed into a series of mini-series and one-shots that feels like the equivalent of a network trying to kill a show by bouncing it around the schedule. Hopefully I’m being paranoid there.

    Rumor Gathering

While diminished from its peak, the Writeoff is still very much an ongoing concern. Regrettably, while I actually had an idea for the most recent prompt, my Saturdays are packed to the gills and thus I didn't have time to compose it before the submission deadline. As such, I have employed Dueling

Friendship is Card Games: Wondercolts Forever: The Diary of Celestia and Luna

The next entry on the schedule was issues #21 and 22 of the G5 mainline, but those have failed to manifest, making me wonder if that line’s actually been ended in favor of the various mini-series currently in progress. And among them, I only have one released issue unaccounted for. As such, it’s time to turn to the next pony novel… which does not contain ponies.

    Incident of Examination

There's a Crystal Prep-themed Sunset shipping contest on at the moment, and one castoff idea I had got me wondering about Sunset attending CPA... and running against a logical issue. At least I got

Friendship is Card Games: Tell Your Tale, Season 2, Part 2

Looks like that Leap Day hypothesis carried some weight. The long-form episodes should be interesting in their own right, but we’re not looking at one this week. Let’s see what there is to see.

Friendship is Card Games: Green Isn't Your Color · 2:13pm Sep 14th, 2014

This episode does a great job of showcasing Rarity's character. From a color-wheel standpoint, she's in the same situation Jace Beleren was at the beginning of his character arc; definitely blue, but poised on the knife's edge between black and white. Here, her charity and ambition are at war with one another, and we see it being waged in her reactions to Fluttershy's career.

And yes, green isn't her color. Not nearly satisfied enough with the status quo. And all that mud... :raritydespair:

The spa visit is a treasure trove of overanalysis opportunities. A sauna seems like it would be a lot less enjoyable with a coat of hair; maybe they soak afterwards? The mud mask and mud bath are probably formulated differently, in order to benefit the coat and not the skin, and the seaweed wrap probably uses a different species for the same reason. And I have to wonder what getting your horn filed actually feels like. Between this episode and "Ponyville Confidential," the theory that the horn only has sensation when there's magic running through it seems to hold. Also, I'm surprised the spa doesn't seem to have any kind of wingcare treatment. Maybe Fluttershy just didn't want to bother them when she can preen herself...

As I said, overanalysis.

The music during the scene before Photo Finish's arrival is great. You could just play the music, without video or dialogue, and still understand the intent of scene. Photo's leitmotif is also fantastic, evoking the trendy yet almost mechanical form of fashion she practices: take star, take photo, publish, goto 10.

I know it's been retconned in the toys, but I still like Photo Finish having Twilight's cutie mark. After all, her talent is DA MAJJYKS! Also, her presence in Ponyville seems to have multiplied the cultural cachet of the town severalfold. Fashion shows, art galleries, ballets… I suppose it could be in Canterlot, but that's never made clear.

Wow. I had forgotten about the sponsorship deals. I guess the Flimflam tonic was a bit of karma for Applejack.

Pinkie is clearly beyond mortal comprehension. Her command of time-space magic is terrifyingly competent. Gaze not into the soft places of the world, lest the Queen in Pink gaze back.

power of target creature spell.

'Spell', not 'card'? Does that mean Personal Magnetism can only target a creature currently on the stack or am I wrongly assuming things about the lingo?

Photo's Attendants has a typo: It says "as thought it had flash."

2454504
You are correct. Personal Magnetism only works before the creature resolves. By the time it enters the battlefield, the crowd is waiting for it.

2454524
Fixed. Thanks.

Would definitely like that pact card

Dramatic Exit is the reprint, of course, and I like it. All the cards are great (Fluffy Bathrobe's flavourtext makes me think of Exalted's Magical Materials, which in turn prompts such strange imaginings as the Terrycloth-Caste Alchemical), but Pinkie Pact is ridonkulous. I think you could tack a "plus {R}" to the end of the last clause, there.

2455093
Pinkie Pact may not add mana to the cost, but it does require spending another card. And there's always the risk of your mana production getting sabotaged somehow between casting it and your next upkeep. "Naturalize your Gilded Lotus."

Also, Autochthon doesn't like talking about his experiments with terrycloth. Not as bad as the cardboard, but still rather embarrassing.

Beg and Plead

Attitude and Pizzaz

Talk about obscure pseudocycles!

2489070
Hmm. Yeah, that feels like two thirds of a vertical cycle, doesn't it? I was inspired by the Urza's Legacy "X and Y" cards and the Theros "two targets" cycle. Not sure what the rare entry would be, though.

2489094
You don't even need to get Theros involved, the 'X and Y' cards all have two targets themselves.
