Missed it by that much. · 2:23am Sep 13th, 2014

With deadline approaching, it's time to make the admission: I'm not gonna make it. I did what I could -- but Orange Is The New Blue won't get a new chapter before the local midnight. I don't have time for quality (insert your own joke here) and I'm not going to throw a hundred words up there just for a technical claim of having reached goal.

So I apologize: I did what I could with the hours I had, and it wasn't enough. But with six out of seven... well, I'm sure there's someone out there who wants me to quit and you have any doubts, see the Comments sections... but with that posting percentage, I ask for the weekend. I won't be able to write tomorrow: prior commitments to the point where I'll have trouble even posting replies or fixing typos until evening. But I should be able to get something on the missed one by the conclusion of Sunday. After that, I'll likely take a couple of days off and just do trope work (if anything): this was a tiring run, especially for A Mark Of Appeal -- that chapter truly was one of the most emotionally draining things I've ever done, and it didn't hit until after the fact.

So -- again, six out of seven.

Y'know, for a major league baseball player, that might justify about two hundred million per year?

Congratulations on your updating spree! :pinkiehappy:

Six out of seven in less than seven days is beyond impressive. More impressive than that is the fact that you maintained quality throughout. Each of those stories has a different feel to it and you managed to make all of them at a high quality level. Major props to you man.

Estee, you wrote over 20,000 words in a week without sacrificing one drop of quality from your usual fantastic stories, you should be proud as heck at your own accomplishment! You completed the writing equivalent of some kind of Iron Man sprint/marathon, more than many popular writers put out in a quarter, and better than a lot of them as well. I hope you have tears of liquid pride right now! :yay:

Don't! Just... Don't. You have done enough work, and don't you DARE let anyone tell you otherwise. When I get a chance, I am going to read all of these. You should feel proud. Just rest. Godbless, and thank you. Just let yourself slow down a little, okay? I don't want to see you hurt on our behalf.

That was still damn impressive.

Very impressive. Well done!

You've done a great deal of hard and spectacular work, even posting several blog commentaries on things that caught your eye.

Six out of seven is pretty awesome.

If I stay rigorously on task all weekend, I'll finish a slightly overdue (but also triple-expected-size) commission, and wrap up a short story for the writeoffs. Total output, in the same amount of time that you did 20k+ words: Maybe ~7k. My own non-updating stories? Ha.

Even your "failures" are head and shoulders above most people's successes. I think it's time to run with that baseball analogy you mentioned, and declare Victory But Not Perfection; hell, even with like half of them updating, I would have called that a win.

(If anyone here tells Estée to quit, I will fight you.)

I've enjoyed all the new chapters so far, thanks for your hard work.

I recognize a Get Smart! reference when I see one... :pinkiehappy:

Seriously, though, updating five stories in the space of a week is an impressive achievement. Have a Fluttershy.

(Yay!) :yay:
(C'mon, Flutters, you can do better than that.) :rainbowhuh:
(Yay!) :yay:
(Fluttershy...)
(Um... Whoo-hoo?) :yay:
(*sigh*...)
(Oh, I know, how about... um... Break through your writer's block and show them you rock? I mean, if you want to... Sorry, I'm not very good at this...) :fluttershysad:

Y'know, for a major league baseball player, that might justify about two hundred million per year?

Heh, well, I don't think I can quite cut a cheque for that amount (well, I could, but it'd bounce higher than the International Space Station), but I think you've earned a few stories' worth of custom cover art, for whatever that's worth(*)... Time to crank up the ol' Paint Shop Pro...

(* cash value 1/100th of 1 cent. Void where prohibited. Use no hooks. Manufactured in a facility that processes peanuts. May cause drowsiness. Not to be taken internally.)

Congratulations! I love what you have achieved.

Now, write whatever you please, whenever you feel like it. This is a hobby. You know, fun. You do not owe us any schedule of updates

And thank you for all of your stories. I'm looking forward to whatever you post next.

six out of seven

You... you've updated all those fics?

*flails around like a distressed walrus*

I ask for the weekend.

And you're going to be writing MORE, after you've already done this?

*flailing increases*

I thought it was five out of seven. Which is still damn impressive, but I was sad that Triptych didn't get done in time.

Then I went to check it on your stories list and it turns out it got one of those damn ninja-updates that don't show up on the favorites list.

You wrote more in a week than I have in the last three months, and it was all really good material. And, contrary to my fears, you do not seem to have burned out along the way. God do I envy your ability to just sit down and do it.
Is there a magic spell I can cast to gain this strange power? Is there a quest I must achieve, some elusive animal I must hunt?

Anyway, sitting down to read Triptych now. Somehow I suspect this is gonna be the best update yet...

:ajbemused: No. Bad Estee. No flagellating yourself over failing to meet a self-imposed goal that your readers care about only because it meant more of your awesome stuff to read. Even if you don't update Orange is the New Blue, you shouldn't feel you have to quit. Some of the best authors on the site spend months between updates... as do I. :twilightblush:

But seriously, the number of people who don't want you to quit vastly outweigh those who do.

I reckon you're missing a "don't" there, pardner. :ajsmug:

That was one hell of an update spree, man! Don't sprain your brain. :pinkiecrazy:

...so I was. :derpyderp2: Thanks for the heads-up.

Hey, you still did plenty of updates. Don't lose that momentum!
