    Something Neat I Found

So, like any normal author who writes fanfiction about a pony named Anon, I often browse the oc:filly anon tag on Derpibooru. Well, today while taking a look in there, I found something that really, really made me smile. Sure, these aren't my bug, Anonymous Flicker, but it's great to finally see some changeling queen Anon arts out there. I still positively squeed when I saw them.

Events to come and User Input

So now that Make Your Mark has reached its apparent conclusion, I have a vague outline for the path that Vlogs of an Ancient Insect may take. That said, I'm looking at concluding things at Roots of All Evil - Part 2 before going into an epilogue. Before I go too far with things, I thought I'd shake some things up with some community input on canon events.

    Chime in after the break.

    Going Forward

As it stands, there are two chapters currently completed, with one of them ready to go on Monday. After that is posted on Monday, I will be putting Diaries on a release and potential work hiatus until the new year. More thought needs to be put into the story's central final arc. Presently, we are in a cooldown from the Storm King's Invasion/Manehattan arcs, in what I tentatively think of as

Thoughts so far? / What you'd like to see?

Dunno how many will see this or respond, but to those who do, I've got a few questions for you all, mostly to see where your heads are at. I've generally been enjoying writing this story and it's technical sequel, and I've got the overarching plot of the story planned, but I've been curious where reader thoughts are at regarding the story so far. I'd love to know what you like or dislike about

Status Update & Questions · 2:33am Sep 4th, 2014

So yeah. It's been probably close to a month since my last update. No real excuse for the last few weeks in particular.

Just haven't really been in a writing mood the last little while. I've literally just sat down, opened one of my documents for The Alchemist's Heart or A Blouse Unbuttoned, and managed to write a few words before I manage to get distracted. Maybe it's the summer heat getting to me, or maybe it's just depression. I've just been so tired lately that the only things I really feel motivated to do is back-to-back reading on long stories, or sleep. Heck, the last few days, I haven't even been motivated to play video games, that's how bad it is.

After I finish the marathon reading session I've been doing for Forgiveness Pending, I promise to get back on track and pop out the next chapter of the Alchemist's Heart. Hell, I only have a scene and a half to write before I'm technically done that chapter.

That being said, so close to the end of the story, I can't help but feel that because of the Silver-locked first-person perspective, I never really got a chance to expand too much on certain characters. A rather big failing of this story, I feel, is the treatment regarding Aqua Regia. There's so much that I could have done with this character, but her limited appearances in my original plans greatly hampered much to do with her. She just became one of those stock psychopath antagonists. We never really get to understand why Aqua is a became the way she was; it just boiled down to 'bluh bluh Aqua Regia is a massive cunt' from Silver's POV. She had the potential to be an interesting character, as Shachza likes to point out Alas, this close to the end, it is far too late for any sort of 'redemption'.

With only the next chapter and an epilogue comprised of a number of Silver's diary entries and a scene or two to bring Silver 'closure' left to write, the story is incredibly close to its finish. That brings me to one of the things I want to ask all of you; would you be interested in either post-epilogue bonus chapters or a separate [short] story focusing on Aqua Regia?

Right, next... names. I'm not going to lie. I've stumped myself for names for Silver Script's two unicorn daughters. Originally, I was going to name one of them Epona, but for reasons I'd rather not get into, that name is off the table. Amity and Verity are two considerations I'm presently working with, but they aren't set in stone. That said, I'm not limiting their naming convention to alchemy at all. If anybody wants to thrown a name into the hat, I'll definitely consider them if I think they might be something Silver would think of. :raritywink:

PS. Shachza, are you still okay with me making that reference to To Love a Pony that I talked about? Lemme know, 'cause I'd love to bounce a question or two your way.

Anyway... It's now 11:33pm, and I am practically falling asleep at my keyboard. Peace.

Well, you're about an hour ahead of me, but that's alright. ...Hmn... I feel that Alchemist's Heart was a little underdeveloped. It really started failing to be interesting a couple of chapters ago. It's close to the end, after all. Soon it'll be time for another funeral fond farewell as the story finally ends.

I've just been so tired lately that the only things I really feel motivated to do is back-to-back reading on long stories

Yup. Depression.

If you have a friend on skype, try watching movies together. I can provide you a most awesome link me and one of my buddies use to let out some good needed laughs or feels.

John Carter is also a pretty kick butt movie too. Almost any movie can be enhanced just watching it with someone else, even if you have to do the countdown and play stuff.

I do hope you find something to help you out. Get well soon, and try not to stress too much on things you can't control. Also, burnout happens. Maybe you just need a small break and get out for awhile.

*hugs*

Hope you feel better soon.

Ok, since my Internet Explorer crashed while finished this post, let's see if I can remember it all.

First off, I'm glad it's "Shachza pointed out" and not "Shachza, leave me the F alone already!"

:twilightsheepish:

Next:

would you be interested in either post-epilogue bonus chapters or a separate [short] story focusing on Aqua Regia?

Do you have to ask? :raritywink:

Yes, I'm still fine with you referencing my story. It'd be a bit hypocritical of me to not be.

This might be a bit of a stretch but when you mentioned names I thought of Aqua Clara. (I think that's the correct way for it.) My thinking was, since Silver is determined to do things right this time, the past be damned, she'd turn Aqua's very name into a (slightly spiteful) manifestation of this. She might call the foal Clara under normal circumstances.

Or it could be a name that someone dissuades her from because of bad history and worse references.

Forgiveness pending huh? Trying to catch up to that took me a week :P
Anyways I wish you luck in your endeavors.

I suspect I'm likely to be a minority opinion, but frankly, I have no interest in any sort of further expansion on Aqua Regia. Whatever her reasons, whatever her backstory (which you already explained to some degree), the fact is that she ended up a true monster, and was central to one of the most horrific and brutal scenes I've read. Frankly, to read more about her will only bring up that scene again, and I'm not interested in hating her any less.

That Aqua didn't get more screen time and development is kind of irrelevant on the whole - this was Silver's story through and through, and I felt she got enough development and screen time for her role in that story.

That said, I am sorry you're struggling so hard and all I can do is wish you luck with it right now.

2426725 Well, let's see... Day three, and I'm on chapter 59.

2426905 Just a mite faster than me. :P

2427734 I will probably be at 70 at the minimum before I hit the hay.

2427770 So you'll probably finish it tomorrow. Just how much have you been reading?

2427771 About 33 chapters in a day, not counting the new chapters for It Never Really Ends.

If I may voice my opinions on this matter.

As for the matter of Forgiveness Pending Bender. I would agree that Kiro's story is fantastic in most regards. So it's worth it and honestly I've done a whole complete reread of both "When a pony calls" and "The Alchemist's Heart" up to the current point so the story is pretty fresh in my head.

As for the whole name bit. Honestly I would kind of like to see Sliver name one of the kids Koori which if memory serves me would be the Japanese translation of the word Ice. Which I think she would do in memory of Ice Blossom. Maybe if you can use the translated name for Blossom for the other one which I think would be the only saving grace to the events that followed the chapter that I much talked about in a previous comment on the story.

As for Aqua Regia... to be honest...

I wouldn't mind it. Either being the side story that lines up event to event wise with The Alchemist's Heart. Either being summed up in parts between interactions or that you flush it out with POV Aqua with her interactions at home. I could see it be a rather interesting side to events. Like the reason she did what she did. The psychotic break towards the end not much counting. I figured that was just her world completely going to crap shit. Which could be integrating if you explore how she did it in more detail in then tricking the guard. I figured it would be a completely different story called "The Regia Aria" or something of that sort. Which could dive into her history as well as flush out more of the Blueblood house. Hell you could even start it during the events of "When a pony calls" So help cement it in. Course this could be over thinking it but to each there own.

But now I've got to wonder... is there going to be another story that followed "The Alchemist's Heart" Following Sliver Script or her daughters? I figured that much can happen after this story depending on how you decide to end it and where. The crystal empire would be a rather good spot, as well as Ponyville in terms of Lyra, Bon Bon, and Honeydew. Not to count the others. Canterlot... honestly not so much but I can see it be a choice to be close to her friends from the university as well as the princesses and Twilight Velvet.

As I've said in the end the choices are yours and yours alone. But I look forward to find out how this all plays out. Thank you for taking the time to read my comment and I hope your day is going well.

2431117 I might start another story involving Silver Script eventually, but between The Alchemist's Heart and a Blouse Unbuttoned, and my desperate desire to find a job, which I will probably never get, I'm kinda starting to burn out on writing pony and will need to take a break.
