Yup. If I'm leaving fanfiction, I'm A) not going quietly, and B) easing out slowly.
OE was a passion project for me, both a love letter to my favorite anime and a challenge to myself to write large numbers of words without weighing myself down by worrying about them too much. These two things may not have been the best choice for one another. I love OE, and I would write nothing but it if I could, but if the aim was to prove that I had the potential to finish a big project then maybe I shouldn't have chosen something so dang long.
Which is where you come in.
As far as I personally am concerned, the series is cancelled. Breaks my heart, but as things stand I'll never be able to give it the time and energy the story needs to thrive, at least not on my own. Hey, I've already written nearly 70K words for it, easily a short novel, which I'm pretty darn proud of. But life calls, and I must move on. Which is why I'm opening the floor for anyone who wants to step in and take over, even temporarily. (How cool would a different writer for each remaining battle be?) The goal of this series was quantity of words over quality, so I won't bother holding auditions; if you can provide at least some proof that you're a decent writer, you're in. If you love dark drama, mysteries, and giant robot battles, and happen to have some free time handy, why not give it a shot? The story's dead in the water otherwise.
If you're interested, or know anyone who's interested, leave a comment or send me a message. I'll provide a cliff's note breakdown of where the story is going, as well as a brief overview of each character and upcoming robot, all of which can be disregarded at your leisure. This is about fun, not form. And please spread the word, as I know only a small number of people read these things. If two weeks go by with no volunteers, I'll simply make the notes public and the story will end.
Regardless of where this ends up going, at some point in the future I'll be announcing the beginning of a new project, Our Equestria: Alternate. "What? But that doesn't make any sense!" you cry. Oh, you will see. You. Will. See.
What exactly would you consider proof of being a decent writer? Would the stories we write on fimfiction be an example?
2406587 Basically. If you ask, I'll skim over the things you've written so far, and if they're basically error-free and I can see that you've got a grasp on tone and story then I'll give you a shot. I've got nothing to lose, after all.

I wish I could make you finish it, but writing fanfiction is a hobby. It's supposed to be fun. And the worst one can do to a hobby is make it a chore.
I tried to watch the anime after I saw this fic but just couldn't get into it. I watched the first two episodes and just hated 100% of the characters. What do you see in it?

2406846 Well, the giant robots help.
Really, it's a whole bunch of things. The atmosphere, the art, the concept, the creative robot designs, even the characters; the reason I love the cast of Bokurano is that they're not meant to be instantly likeable. They're not heroes, they're not wise beyond their years, they barely have any agency in what's going on around them, they're just a bunch of dumb kids who've been thrown into a situation completely beyond their understanding. Watching them grow and develop as they come to terms with what's going on is the real appeal for me. Of course, I'm an exceptionally patient person, and I prefer when these things take a long time to pay off, but I've been informed that for the average person the series makes the same misstep as Puella Magi Madoka Magica in that it's too much bait and not enough switch. (Watch that one too, by the way.) Plus a lot of it's playing off tropes of the mecha genre, so I know even I'm missing a lot of the subtle commentary. Personal preference, I just happen to think it's beautiful.

Each writer has their own style of writing compilation stories have been done and well buy they START as compilation stories. so if you do end up handing it off to a new writer per battle i think it would be jarring.
Huh, well, I did just finish watching Bokurano. I don't know how many guest writers you already have, but I'd love to be one as well if at all possible. Assuming it isn't too late. If not, then I'll read what's up of it so far so I can get a feel for where it's going.

Can i make my own side series about this? I'm not a very good writer and so i won't continue Our Equestria but maybe after NaPoWriMo i would do a little 1,000 - 3,000 short story on it! So what do ya say?
