Bronycan - For Those of you Who are Going—no, really this time! · 4:08am Aug 11th, 2014
As some of you may remember, I had to cancel my trip to EFNW due to midterms and assignments. I was really bummed out to have to cancel my spot on the fanfiction panels I was doing, and have to cancel my trip down to the states altogether. Thankfully, there's still another con this year! Bronycan! And it's closer! And it's after the semester ends! (But it's not as big )
For those of you going, I'll be on the fan fiction panel again this year, as well as the 'Horse game' (working title) panel for the project I've been working on as a programmer/story lead.
The Fan Fiction Panel:
Joining me again this year are Gary Oak—whom I believe is acting once again as the facilitator for the panel—and Horse Voice, of grimdark/EqD fame.
In our hour and a half long panel we'll be going over some of the good habits to develop as a writer, good practices when planning/making a story, and how you can use many of the tools available to you as a storyteller and writer. The panel is currently slotted for 11:30 AM on Saturday, so be there or be... not there, I guess.
Horse game panel:
Horse game is a fleshed-out 3D platforming adventure game created in Unity with many custom and in-house assets. Early footage of the game was first posted to /r/mlplounge by Ben Cracknell, its founder and original developer. Fueled by the interest shown there, and by people wanting to join and help, the game has grown to a core development team of around 10 or so people, including composers, artists, and programmers. At the panel we'll be going over our planned features and goals for the game as well as our development process to date. The panel is currently slotted for 3:00 PM on Saturday.

Before letting you go, I thought I'd mention state of affairs...
If you've been following me since I rewrote 70,000 words for Flying High, Falling Hard, you may know me as a persistent bastard. These past few semesters have been pretty tough for me. I experienced a really bad case of burnout a few semesters ago and never really recovered. I'm going on my 6th consecutive semester of university at the start of next month, and all I really want is to stop going to school and get a job someplace doing game development. My creativity has been a bit sapped for pretty much an entire year now. I struggle to write in a day what used to be my daily minimum word count. For a long stretch this semester, I didn't write at all, in fact.
I've started again, albeit slowly. And as you know I am a persistent bastard, and I've finished all three of my novel length fics. The newest novel length fic I have planned is going to be my longest yet, but I'm confident that I will see it through.
With chapters likely averaging around 5,000 words, the current planning puts it at 115,000 words, but most of my fics go on 20-30% longer than I plan for them to. Right now I'm in the middle of chapter 3. I don't plan on releasing a particular arc until it's complete, since as I've seen time and time again, having room to go back and change things is extraordinarily useful and benefits the end product immensely.
I have another two part story that's been sitting at around 2/3rds to 3/4ths completion for a while now as well. I'll most likely finish it and post it before I officially publish Darkquestria, so that'll be something to chew on in the coming month or so.
That's all for now. Feel free to say, "Hi!" if you bump into me at the con. I'll be walking around all weekend wearing a tag with my user name printed largely on it—and of course, I'll be at the two panels above.
I sure as heck am glad to have you back for this one. We see things quite differently, which is good, because it demonstrates that there is more than one way to go about writing.
I was afraid the panel would be an hour and a half of Gary and I agreeing on everything. Who would want to watch that?
Excellent, can't wait to see you guys there.
Interesting. I won't be going, but I'll ask around about how it was.
On another note, this story you're working on catches my eye, so I have a quick question.
Will it be TwiDash? I know it wasn't tagged with Romance, so I figured I'd better ask rather than make an assumption.

At this time there are no plans to make it explicitly romantic, however I've been considering adding some romantic undertones or having romance between them right at the end.
Just finished attending your fanfiction panel and while I had to leave early to Line up for DHX panel, I really appreciate the advice you, Gary and horse voice gave. It gives me a goal to strive to (particularly the advice on how to write summaries) although it kind of makes me feel inferior. Ah well, got to keep putting my feet forward.
