    Watch (This) Space

    Hello everyone!

I've been gone on hiatus for a few years. I stopped watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in the middle of the seventh season. But a few months ago, my interest was rekindled. And the last two seasons were fantastic. The high point, for me, is the new characters -- the Student Six -- who breathed fresh life into the show.

Ballad of the Lightbringer · 8:57am Aug 10th, 2014

art by Argodaemon

My real-life summer workload has been hitting harder than normal this year, so I was going to skip blogging this week and try to catch up on weeks of PMs (my apologies to everyone whom I haven't answered yet! :twilightoops: )... but then this incredible ball of Fallout: Equestria awesomeness came out! I couldn't go a week without sharing it with all the fans who may have missed it.

Today, I offer another song by Gloom, following those in Thank You, Plus Pony Music and Music of the Wasteland. This time, the song is "The Ballad of the Lightbringer". This song is completely apocryphal, the sort of fanciful bardic tale I can imagine being written about Littlepip that had no basis in reality. The events in the song never happened -- and, in fact, couldn't happen -- but Gloom is allowed artistic license.

"Little Gloom the Storyteller" by Retl

While I'm at it, I want to share the ballad of another wasteland pony, Silver Storm (a.k.a. Hired Gun) from the amazing Fallout: Equestria side story, Heroes by No One. Here is IvoryKeysADSR's beautiful version of Silver's song:

"The Ballad of the Lightbringer"
by Little Gloom
to the tune of "Demonbane" by Mercedes Lackey and Heather Alexander

The road through Grimfire Canyon, near Taurin’s border wars:
A fearful herd of bison flee Cauldron’s minotaurs,
A frightened herd of farmers, their young calves and their wives
Seek refuge from a warlord who wants more than just their lives

Now Littlepip approaches. “Why do you run?” asks she,
“And who is that pursuing? Whose anger do you flee?
“You are all of Taurin, why seek the NCR?
“Gawd can’t give you protection with her armies stretched too far.”

“Of Gawdyna, we beg her, the shelter of her lands
“Lord Cauldron would enslave us to toil beneath his sands,
“He’d give our calves to hellhounds, our mates to minotaurs
“Chief Grimfire ignores our pleas or has fallen in the wars.”

Now up speaks small Littlepip, “The border is not far,
“But you are all of Taurin, and not the NCR.
“They have their share of battles; no forces can they loan.
“But damned if I will see you left so helpless on your own!”

So forth goes brave Littlepip, and up the canyon side,
Atop Grimfire she waits there, Little Mac at her side,
With Cauldron’s force approaching, she calls out from on high,
“You shall not pass, Lord Cauldron. Nay, I shall not let you by.”

Now only small Littlepip stand blocking Cauldron’s way.
“Now who are you, fool pony, who dares to tell me nay?”
Now up speaks fierce Littlepip, her voice like brittle glass,
“The mare they call Lightbringer, and it’s I you shall not pass.”

Now there stands great Lord Cauldron, behind him bulls with chains.
A pegasus beside him, his facial color drains.
“So you are the Lightbringer? This land is not your home,
“So heed me now Littlepip, and find somewhere else to roam.”

“Turn back, I’ll give you weapons, and I shall give you bits.
“And drugs that make you stronger, faster and quicken your wits.”
Lord Cauldron offered, smiling, “Turn aside, I’ll make it so.
“Just do not interfere here ‘tween me and these buffalo.”

“What need have I of weapons, with Little Mac right here?
“And all the wealth I treasure is sunlight bright and clear.
“Your drugs I really don’t need, you have no idea…
“And I protect ALL helpless not just in Equestria!”

“Let it be, I’ll give you lovers, stallion slaves and mares.
“And I will give you servants who will tend your every cares.
“And I will give you bullets, and name you as a friend,”
“If you but turn aside and leave these poor fools to their end.”

“Homage is my lover; I need no other mare,
“And I am flush with bullets, so you need not worry there.
“Friends I have already, through friendships better made,
“So turn you back, Lord Cauldron, if of me you are afraid.”

Lord Cauldron snorts and gestures. The pegasus flies high,
“Prepare yourself, Littlepip, for now you shall surely die.”
The winged one calls forth monsters, the hellhounds she commands,
And Littlepip’s horn starts to glow as defiantly she stands.

The pegasus flies upwards, making clouds of thundering black.
The hellhounds charge Lightbringer; she strains and holds them back.
The manticores attack now with throwing chains and guns,
And Littlepip cries out in pain, but refuses to run.

The thunderclouds descend now, upon Grimfire Canyon,
They hide the awful battle from the eyes of everyone.
The pegasus shouts triumph, too soon she vents her mirth,
Lightbringer pulls the lightning down and smites her to the earth!

The thunderclouds have lifted, and there on barren ground,
Stands Li’lpip, hurt yet victor, the hellhounds chained and bound.
She looks down on Lord Cauldron, her eyes grow cold and bleak,
“Now I shall give you, Cauldron, all the power that you seek.”

Now Li’lpip frees the hellhounds, and Cauldron screams with fear.
She sets them on the slavers who first had brought them here.
“The slaves shall judge their slavers,” as in Gawdyna’s laws,
They look down on Lord Cauldron and they do not stay their claws.

Littlepip calls the farmers, “Go tell you near and far,
“How thus are dealt all tyrants, not just in NCR.”
Littlepip’s the bane of slavers, their query she defends.
And thus she gained new enemies and thus she saved new friends.

And I'll end the blog by sharing Seventh Element's gorgeous album "The Ministry Mares." :pinkiegasp: :raritystarry: :rainbowkiss: :yay: :ajsmug:

My mind... It is blown... Wow, it looks like someone's working on turning the entire story into an animated movie and I am staggered by the quality of this independant project. Lil'pip is just as adorable in this video as she is in the story.

Edit: Aww the guy wrote he isn't planning anything further. Well, if that took him six months, I can understand.

Oh WOW!

I just...wow...there are no words for this more fitting than a quote from the origin of the term Dashite: So AWESOME!

Just...wow. That's getting a fav.

That's some dedication.

(song needs work...I kinda cringe hearing it)

That SFM video, I gotta say from editing videos myself I spent at least 30+ hours on making a reasonable 3 minute pmv. Which doesn't compare to a 7 minute SFM animation that looks as nice as that, I figure at least 100+ hours has gone into that thing.
Absolutely nuts.

How strong of computer do you need to watch something in 2160 4k quality?
And I had almost forgot Lil'pip's old nightmare.

2358285 is that even possible ?????

2358322
Forgetting or having a strong enough computer for 2160p video?

I am glad you liked the video. ^^ It would be awesome to make the entire story like that, but I can guarantee it is a project I would never finish, so decided to just do the one. I do plan on making more FoE content, though. :) It is a universe I love coming back to.

ye gods, that stuff's amazing

2358367 finally it came out yay it was so awesome

2358344 the pc thing. the nightmare was weird

2358367

You need to do some Heroes stuff :3

hi hi

That was some solid scene composition right there. Good angles, good motion, good pacing. The establishing shot of the world outside the Stable was breathtaking.

((Also, I now feel the urge to create a character named Lord Cauldron. Although, to keep Little Gloom's story inaccurate, he'll have to be a humble cooking ware craftspony or something.))

2358254
to me the song was fine but i would have prefered a link to an instrumental of the song, gets kinda confusing listening to lyrics while reading different ones.

2358469
I know for sure that my laptop won't be able to run 2160p smoothly, already tried.

The music is simply amazing
and the sfm video too I'm not a fan of 3D animation for mlp but this one is very very good, lip sync, hair physic, facial expression, even the background is detailed simply an astonishing work

2359083
2358285
it depends in my field I see a lots of computers who have the necessary power but are completely screwed up by a lots of bad softwares (adware etc.., by default windows installed by xxx constructor and more)

...Maybe I should read more Heroes. I read the first chapter a couple months ago and liked what I was seeing, but how can I write my own thing if I get wrapped up in something so big again? :unsuresweetie:

Sometime soon, though, I hope...

2358367

That's awesome to hear. There's little that can please me more than seeing Littlepip animated. I actually shy a bit away from rewatching Light Bringer because it strikes me so deeply... So keep up the good work, my friend.

2359719 I have the same sentiment, really. I hesitate to pick up Project Horizons or Pink Eyes again, because they're kinda long (Except Pink Eyes, that one is perhaps the shortest of the side stories, still though).

Much less start on Heroes or the others. I wanna get my project going instead. :ajsmug:

2358118
Well, there is the first part, too...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4zolq9fF8c

And it was made by someone else, so there's always a chance that with the new radio play chapter coming out, someone will pick it up

2360375

Yeahhh. I have my own FoE project I'd love to get going, but I have a lot of planning to get through before I can even start it. Put writing and reading on top of that, well... Lol.

But now, as I take a reading break from my complete lack of productivity tonight (reading often helps when I can't write), in actually thinking Heroes sounds like a good idea after catching up with a much smaller story. I mean, so what if it takes forever to catch up with? It could also fuel more ideas... lol

Though in the case of Project Horizons, I've quit that one because it lost my interest. I just find Blackjack's constant idiocy too hard to swallow (I got to about chapter 44), and it often seems like it's trying too hard to be extreme and depressing. It just breaks my suspension of disbelief way too often.

No offense to bigger fans, of course. Just not my cup of tea. :moustache:

Thanks for that link. Whether or not anybody keeps making these little videos, I'm happy they are there. I understand it would be a herculean undertaking to filmatize the entire fic. It's incredibly long and so much happens. Normally in a sandbox game like Fallout 3, you can put in hundreds of hours of playtime to fully explore everything. Yes, I'm one of those people. I'm sure most of us here are. Anyhow, the fic itself seems to get around to most of the content available in the game, so I can definately tell it is not a realistic prospect to spend 6 months animating a few minutes of a tale that would take hours to tell in full.

I love the ballad. It makes me want to make a folk metal cover of it, though. Something along the lines of Korpiklaani's "Spirit of the Forest."

Interesting.
As usual Kkat always fills her post with amazing stuff.
I just hope the guys from the radio play manage to finish the story before i turn 40...

That being said the song covered something i have been wondering around recently: Littlepip reputation.

By the way Is it ok to talk about spoilers of the story here? Well better be safe than sorry.

Considering Littlepip, almost single-handedly, restored Equestria, by subjecting herself to martydom. This is the kind of stories, that i imagine would appear all around the Equestrian land after its restoration, telling tales of the mighty LightBringer, most, if not all of them, innacurrate and exagerate. So give it a few decades and we would probably see a "Church of Littlepip" or something like that, who represent her as some super hot and tall mare/motherly figure who conquered the dark and cleaned the taint from their soil.

When I see the last lines of that song, I find myself reminded of a certain slave and a certain slaver (who has a daughter) in Project Horizons. I would think those who have read the story, or at least enough of it, would know to whom I refer. And I wonder, in the darkness, if you can really afford to leave the judging to the slaves. That law is poetic, it is true, and has a certain crude efficacy, but when the oppressed are given power, sometimes it is worse than what came before. Without a guiding hoof, sometimes you get the Reign of Terror, for example.

At least Scorch has a good reason for not updating the reading.

it just occurred to me about the saying 'Patience is a Virtue,'
could it be possible for somepony in the Equestrian Wastelands to actually be the 'Virtue of Patience'?
