I've been writing and selling stories for longer than a lot of folks reading this have been alive. Check Baal Bunny for more!

Making it Official · 9:34pm Aug 7th, 2014

A common refrain:

Among the various nice comments I've been getting in the two weeks since I put up the short story "Foreigner" has been variations on "But what happens next?" So I just wanted to make it official that "Foreigner" the short story has now become "Chapter One" of Foreigner, the novel. I think I've got a storyline worked out that can hurl a group of characters into an appropriate amount of leaping about, so let's do that for a while, shall we? I'm aiming for "Chapter Two" on or about August 22nd.

Sounds good.

Really? I thought it was fine as a oneshot, but I can see why some people would want more (of course, there's hardly a story on this site that someone doesn't demand more of, but that's beside the point). Unfortunately, I've seen several completed stories drop in quality when the author listens to those people and adds more, but I think I can trust you to so better than that.

Ditzy Do, accidental archaeologist. Good to see her sister rubs off on her. (by impact, mostly) :rainbowlaugh:

Now that I think about it:

I wrote An Infinite Number of Pinkies this same way. The first chapter was posted to Equestria Daily as a short story back in March of 2011, and a year-and-a-half later, I came back and turned it into a giant multiversal adventure saga. In other words, what could possibly go wrong? :scootangel:

I hadn't even thought of dragging Daring Do into this. Till now, I mean... :twilightoops:

I can certainly see how you can make the case against a direct sequel for this particular story. However, I would like see a story (or stories) set in this universe that explored the interactions between the isolationist, conservative Griffon culture and the ebullient Pony culture with quick tempered, standoffish Gilda forced into the role of an intermediary. (And the interactions between Derpy and Gilda. There is a crack pairing I never considered!)

I blame you:

Of course. I mean, you're the one who put this whole "Secret Santa" thing together! So thank you! :pinkiehappy:

My absolute favorite sort of story to write is one where a character gets thrown into a situation not of her making and has to figure a way to get out of it without the world blowing up. So I'm at least gonna enjoy putting Gilda through this particular wringer.

Dammit you're all making this contest hard to review. D:

Looking at my outline:

I don't think this'll end up even being 40,000 words, so not really novel-length at all. Of course, outlines are designed to change... :pinkiecrazy:
