You guys are a little too amazing · 3:51pm Jul 20th, 2014

Some people made some big donations yesterday. In fact, there were only big donations. I'm gratified, and a little alarmed. Please don't empty your bank accounts for this. We are not bringing clean drinking water to Peruvian villagers here. $5 or $10 is perfectly respectable.

I wish I could thank you all personally, but I don't recognize some of the names! I do recognize TheJediMasterEd, and AugieDog, who betrayed his fellow furry by donating to my account instead. Evilly done, Dog. Ghost contributed rather too much after deciding he didn't really need to eat three meals a day. You probably think I'm joking. Mr. B__ M__ topped the list, giving... a lot. I don't know who B__ M__ is. Google is unhelpful. Thanks, B! Sucker.

Or perhaps it's part of his plan. To set me off guard. Perhaps he's a new nemesis. :trixieshiftleft:

I'm most of the way thru a 2000-word story for this weekend's writeoff, which I entered just to make sure I actually finished something during the pledge period. I regret saying that I'd only count published words, because it's going to be hard to get even one chapter into publishable shape in just 2 weeks. But a write-off story is supposed to be half-assed.

I'm not happy with the results. I don't like that RD's write-offs only give you 2 days to write. It's tolerable for 1000-word stories, but when the minimum is 2000, I can't do it. It takes me at a bare minimum one full day to choose an idea, one full day to pump out 2000 words, and one day to revise it.

So I chose the first idea that came to me. By the time I had 800 words, I realized it wasn't going to work. The one feeling I wanted to convey isn't coming through. No one will like this story. I should've held out for a nice cheery idea, because you can botch a cheery idea without looking like a creep.
But now I am in words
Stepped in so far that, should I wade no more,
Returning were as tedious as go o'er.

2000-word ideas are much less common than 1000-word ideas, and I think also less common than 8000-word ideas. (See "Short shorts and the word-count donut hole".) You can write a one-punchline story in 1000 words, but 2000 needs something meatier.

So, in conclusion: B__ M__. Who is he, and what does he want? :trixieshiftright:

*titters*
You're panicking because you're drowning in money. And words. A kiddie pool of words.

But mostly money. All $750 of it.

This is fuckin hilarious.

I haven't written anything yet and I still plan on submitting--i don't even have a concrete idea. So you're better off than me. And good to hear you got plenty of donations.

I think your lessons aren't really sinking in to theggeneral populace if they'rebbeing generous instead of laughing at you.

I did both, eh? It's like I learned a lesson, but didn't actually learn anything.

2302020
Sooooo... who are you over at Clarion? ;)

2302020

I'm at the point where I have re-written my first draft twice, utterly and completely changed how I want to tackle the prompt, and seen the characters trample all over the plot I had in mind. I might finish it in time, but it will be a close call.

If not for the fact almost every single idea I had would result in either a minific or something above 10K words I would have no chance at all of ever completing in time I might be already done; I guess this means I'm forced to agree with Bad Horse that ideas for this word count are hard to come by :twilightblush:

2302185
Ha! I WISH I was somebody at Clarion. I was talking about the writeoff.

But hey, Clarion, the writeoff...what's the difference, right? :trollestia:

2302477
I know the feeling.
I still don't have anything written yet; I'm sitting down just now to begin. I do at least have an idea to go with though.
Good luck finishing!

I generally prefer:

The evil that I know--you--to the evil that I don't know--just about any given fur fan. Unless the writer involved here is one of the four or five writers in furrydom worth paying attention to: I suppose I should investigate the Clarion site there and see if I can find the "tote board" or wherever all the contestants are listed...

Mike

2301856 Sometimes you need to be careful asking that question:

2301856

You may want to edit out that name, as Bad Horse has done.

2303952
Fixed. Thanks for the heads-up.

2302490
Aww. I was gunna throw some cash at you too.

2304105
Hey, you can throw cash at me anytime. :scootangel:

*knock*knock*knock*

"C'mon man, ya been in there a half - hour almost!"

*knock*knock*knock*

"Bad Horse, are you writing off in there?"

Seems like I only get 200,000 word ideas. :raritycry:

2304208
Umph. I have the urge to take this too far. I should have some restraint. I've been taking things too far for the entire weekend. Oh, and I might've aksidentally brokeded Bad Horse when no one was looking. I should stop.

...Nah.

Axis, have you ever played the Loonie game at the peelers? Cuz I wanna play hardcore mode and spin ya right round like a record, baby! Take it off! Take it off! Woo!

But yes, I am actually considering throwing dollars at you because Rarity.

Man... he's really going. I wish I could tap that much. I'd be set for life.

You mean this?

Friggin doorknob socks. Edgar Allen Poe is in this.

Is it time for the party to start?

It has the name under "Sponsors". There's no point in censoring it here.

2306517 Security thru obscurity actually works pretty well most of the time.

So do unpaid interns, though they sometimes only work well because we set low standards for them.

You're more closely following that guideline of minimizing duplication of sensitive information. If it weren't for the delay in getting Scootareader to update his post, you might have been CC compliant.

2308635 I posted it originally because he made it visible thru "Sponsors", so I thought it was okay. Turned out he didn't mean to do that.
