I like the scientfic explaination for how ponies grasp things things.
If you are doing science then I guess I will try for an Occult perspective on the ponies just to keep things interesting. (sorry I don't have a cute picture for mine

Let's take a look at Fluttershy's "stare".
Now we assume that what Fluttershy is doing a simple "evil eye" or some form of "hypnosis", however this not the case at all. What she is actually doing is linking her own heart into said "victim".
In other words the person's mind is not affected at all , but rather their heart is. Her ability is in fact a form of Empathic "communication" . She is pretty much forcing her own heart into the being she is staring at. Her heart (psychicaly) links into the other being's empathic center.
This explains why Discord is immune because Discord has NO emapthy in his entire being at all ; so there is nothing for her heart to link into.
Discord still has a sense morals , but he is unable to feel what other's feel.
Well , now you have scientfic and an occult explaination for the weirdness that is ponies.
