Lesson Learned II · 7:00pm Jul 15th, 2014

I found a fun parody video of Blurred Lines (which I hate with the passion of a thousand fists impacting Robin Thicke's smug face) and tried to post it here using the YouTube embed code.

What I've learned is that no matter what I do, I can't make the embed code work. This includes efforts using the YouTube link in the composition bar. And the Preview button does pretty much nothing except display whatever non-working code is about to show up in the text. I've even tried copying the format from posts with embedded videos and swapping in the new URL: nothing. So either the video function is disabled on blog posts or I just can't make it operate properly. All things considered, Option #B seems right.

Told you I couldn't code.

...yeah.

I don't suppose you also happen to know where the Delete Account button is?

I tried that code in the central blog composition window. All it did was show up as text.

Have you seen Todd in the Shadows' review of the song yet?

what does the code look like on your end? Is it like:
[youtube=blah]?

2288093 You beat me to the post. I, as a tutor, completely approve of and love this thing. :heart: Weird Al

I'm about to be late for work. For a new Weird Al Yankovic song? Totally worth it...

(Sorry about the coding issue. I get nervous every time I use those square brackets...)

This is from Eakin's post: <iframe width="640" height="360" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/8Gv0H-vPoDc?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

If placed in the blog window, it continues to look exactly like that.

No, but I'll err on the side of caution and presume he hated it.

It's actually pretty funny. Ignore the part where he says he doesn't think it's that bad. He changed his mind about that part later, putting it as an honorable mention on his worst songs of 2013 list and saying that it gets worse every time he hears it.

Even when you used the [youtube= thing? Strange.

The proper code should be:

{youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Gv0H-vPoDc}

(except with the { } as [ ], of course). Did this not work?

Now these are some lyrics I can get behind!
Seriously, I hate pop song lyrics. They're perfectly good songs until some yokel decides to open their mouth and vomit lyrics all over them.

That video should be required viewing for every user before they're allowed to post a story. :pinkiehappy:

Take the s out of https://

That is always the problem.

Here's the proper way to write it: [youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Gv0H-vPoDc]
(fimfiction uses BBcode for formatting, not html(plus, iframes are a horrible thing to allow in website posts. They can seriously mess shit up by someone who knows what he's doing(or can google)))

And yes, it's pretty fucking great. Weird Al is also doing a Reddit AMA right now!

Just to demonstrate that drama is everywhere, somepony in my tweetstream objected to that video because it contained the word "spastic" as a noun. :derpyderp1:

As I understand it, that's one of the places where American and British English differ a lot. In the US, it's a mild insult; in UK, it's a really nasty slur.

Hmmm. Plausible enough. I didn't check the profile of the Aggrieved Individual. (My mistake, obviously.)

It actually appeared twice in my feed today, if you count Knighty's site blog post, three times if you count this post.

People have explained the BBCode situation more than enough, so I'll try a different tack: did you try the YouTube button in the toolbar? Second from the right on the row of buttons between the title box and the blog content box. Copy-paste the URL into the resulting dialogue box and it should do the work for you.
