Steps to becoming a Rainbowbob:
Stage 1: After transfusion with the mother cell, a migratory of the stable mind turns into a fibrous tissue for the sponge to absorb.
Stage 2: After the absorption, the host is left with serving the sponge mind. However, with this transformation, their body mass is given a massive boost in power but at the cost of losing their frame. Sponge roots appear.
Stage 3: Sponge roots grow, using a process in plants that "dive". These "diver" sponges dive into the subconscious mind residue from the host. From there, the sponge host becomes utterly unique and have some freewill.
Stage 4: The mighty sponge mind may be pleased with a few sponge spawns and give them part of control. After all, the army is big. Their numbers grow.
Stage 5: Part of this stage triggers when these unique specimen turn similar. Now, specimens like "RainbowRick" is found to have an evolution to be "RainbowWard".
Stage 6: (UNDOCUMENTED)
As you can see, researchers are still perplexed as to how a "RainbowWard" becomes a RainbowBob because of the sponge's natural secrecy when it comes to intimacy and raising of their young. We are, however, hopeful that in the near future we can observe as to how a metamorphosis of such grand proportion occurs.

One must wonder how the mother cell is formed in mature sponge tissue. And how it is implanted. No species would evolve to depend on surgical implantation, which leaves two options: artificial synthesis... or invasive sponge tentacles.
