Counfounded Ponies Drive Me to Driving · 7:55pm Jul 1st, 2014
It's not that:
I dislike driving. It's just that I'm not very good at it. I consider myself extremely fortunate to live a mile away from my primary place of employment so I can walk up and back.
For Ponies, though, I'm apparently willing to drive. When the first Brony documentary came around, for instance, I drove to Anaheim during the first Equestria LA convention to see a rough cut of the film. When they did the whole My Little Pony Project thing up in L.A., too, I drove up to Fairfax and Melrose, one of the many hearts of L.A., once to see most of the cast perform the live reading of "Hearth's Warming Eve" that you can now watch in the comfort and convenience of your own home if you have the Season 2 DVD collection, and a second time to pick up the big pony statue I later used as the inspiration for the villain in my semi-epic poem "The Laughter and the Night."
And now, once again, Ponies are making me drive up to Fairfax and Melrose. This Sunday, the same theater that hosted the live reading will be showing Ashleigh Ball's Brony documentary, and I've got a seat already reserved. I just have to be back to the University of CA, Irvine by 4PM to host my regular Sunday afternoon radio show, but, well, what could possibly go wrong? That's always my motto!

Wish I could give ya a lift but I live in the valley :(
I wish all this stuff didn't only happen on the west coast. D:

There's gotta be:
Some way to work the old phrase "If wishes were horses..." into this somehow.

Ooh another documentary? My current color: Intrigued
Also, yes, what could possibly go wrong?
Whoa! Another documentary!?
Way behind on the news I am.

It was actually:
Pretty good--as much of it as I managed to see, that is. They did a whole lot of stuff before they showed the film, a barbecue in the little patio behind the theater and a couple short horse-related cartoons, so I had to get up and leave twenty minutes before the end.
They structured it quite nicely, I thought, following Ashleigh Ball, the voice of Applejack and Rainbow, as she journeys from her home in a fairly bucolic part of Canada to New York City as a Guest of Honor at one of the BronyCons, as well as interviewing actually Bronies about why they enjoy watching the show. I've ordered a copy of the DVD from Amazon so I can see how it all winds up...
