So, my editor, Horse Voice, posted a new story today. It has nowhere near the number of hits as it deserves. It's a short story in four parts that crams in myriad "terrible" fanfic concepts and does it successfully. Go check it out!

Alright, truth be told, I read the synopsis and saw what it was labeled as, and it honestly turned me away as I looked at it.

From the long description, it doesn't draw me in at all: It feels like it's a section taken straight out of the story without making me feel the curious need to inspect what it's truly about.

Yes, giving a story a chance is what these opportunities are made for, but there's an old saying: "You don't get a second chance to make a first impression." And if that first impression, stemming from the picture, title, long description, groups, character-tags, and story categorization, are my indication of the path of the story, it really isn't the sort of thing I feel like I should read, as if it might bring something new to mind. :ajsleepy:

I mean, I know you're word's worthy of consideration, and you're clearly really hoping for the best in terms of Horse Voice's story, but the description, alone, really doesn't help to garner my interest. :applejackconfused: S-sorry...

*goes back to the RDxTS romance story he was reading & proofreading*

The point of the contest was to take the absolute stereotypically "worst" concepts in the fiction out there and make a good story from that bad concept.

A couple of my favorites: Tainted Reflection, Ascension, Remember Vigil, Trial by Flower, and Servant of Chaos. The King in the Mountain is another decent one, and The Magnificance of Pinkamena Diane Pie redefines the stereotypical "Pinkie is an insane killer" stereotype in an interesting manner. In short, there's LOTS of creativity here, all from story concepts that were stereotypically "bad" according to the rest of the fandom. Are there clunkers? Of course. Still, give the contest a shot, you may be surprised :pinkiehappy:

*Looks at current contest entry count*

Good. Lord. That contest had 35 entries earlier today. Now it has 48. Guess everyone's trying to be a last-minute entrant :applejackconfused:

With all due respect, I TRIED to read all of the other entries (Mine is The Janitor named Dustbowl, FYI). I got about halfway through when I flat-out gave up.

At least I looked at Horse Voice's story. I didn't read much... but I'M JUST TOO BURNED OUT!!!!!

Good luck to everyone who participated! May the best story win!

Sincerely,

Mr. Album

2240416 The problem is just how, while you can take bad concepts and make them good, that includes things like presentation as well, which just make it seem like "What could be a great idea, wrapped in unappealing wrapping paper."

Giving the contest a shot isn't the same as giving the story a shot, though I wouldn't give most of these a second look: I specifically look for Romance-Based stories, and as an editor, I'm backed up enough on work as it is. :rainbowlaugh:

Still lovin' the contest concept itself, but stories like Horse's are something that need to be refined inside and out to garner votes, especially 'out'. :ajsleepy:
