I don't know quite what to say.
After such a long time, I don't know if anyone is still out there that cares about my story, but after a long, hard two years, I've finally decided to finish it. Life got to me, and I fell out of touch with the brony community. I don't want to get into specifics, but sufficed to say I've been unable to write for the past two years, which was a shame because it's such a passion of mine. About three months ago, I found myself in the position where my life is now more stable, and I've rekindled my love of My Little Pony. I come back with a single mission: to finish this story or die trying! To the three of you out there that didn't lose hope, you're crazy and I love you.
Short story: I'm back. I refuse to let Trails and Trials be another unfinished fan fic.
I also have a surprise plan! You'll have to wait an see though.

It's remained on my watch list despite multiple rounds of purging old stories that "look like they'll never be finished" over the years, so count that as at least one person who cares to see this one through. :)
Oh, crazy. This was one of the first fics I ever read, way back when. It's awesome to hear that you plan on finishing it, but really, even if you never do, what's already there is worth reading by itself. I never wrote this off as just another unfinished fic. This was, and is, a good unfinished fic, and that's rare enough on this site.

Cool beans. I admit I don't really remember Trails and Trials... Seems like its a story I read but never tracked. Well, actually, I suppose it could be that back then tracks and favourites were still two different things (although didn't they change all tracks into favourites anyway?)

Glad to have ya back! I'd completely forgotten about Trials and Trials to be honest, but that was a nice reminder. can't wait to see more from you. If the fact that I've read three out of your current four stories to date is any indication, I can safely say I'm looking forward to what you cook up in the future.
Right, now that your life is back on track, let me be the first to say... oh dear, I've lost my train of thought, hold on a second, would you? You're a pal to do so... *claps* Yes, I've bounced back! Okay, here's what I'm going to say.
I've never given up on you continuing this story. Been disheartened, yes, by the absences, but ultimately those were things you couldn't have controlled. The hope of you giving up had little crossed my mind. That being said...
It's always nice to see another writer continue his journey again. Trails and Trials has always been, in my opinion, an admirable model of how to write a friendshipping story. It was a nice story between two ponies who meet and became closer without getting into the all-too-common path of romance. Romance is always nice, but there's a different, yet equally important warmth to the story of how Ditzy and Twilight became friends and I feel you've captured that nicely. Quite nice, I say. It certainly didn't hurt that it had levity in humor. A well-written story that captured the essence of friendshipping.
It's heartening to know your life is going better and I hope it'll continue to be so. Nothing spoils a writing mood than cold reality knocking on your front door. Though, don't feel like you own us to finish this. Your personal well-bring comes first, we'll understand. I hope you much luck in your writing endeavors and good to hear those writing fires are crackling in you. May our good wishes fan and feed those flames.

Exactly! Fanfiction is populated by shipping. Not as much as MLP thanks to friendship being magic, but still. Congrats to you for taking the different path! Not to say your (originally planned) romance would have sucked, but it's nicer that we got this instead.
