Go buy X-COM!! · 5:58pm Jun 20th, 2014

It's the Steam Sale again and they have X-COM: Enemy Unknown for pennies! Well, £3.74, or whatever that is in your American moon money. The DLC is also super cheap, you definitely want the Enemy Within expansion too! And you can get the game and all the DLC for like, £8!

I would hope by this point everyone would already own it, but I know there are people who resisted. It is genuinely one of my favourite games of all time, and I tend to hate games!

(Also, then you can read my X-COM crossover story and understand it more!)

I'll never do it! Never I say! *jumps out the window* NEVAAAAAAR!!!!!

...And that's how the aliens won :pinkiesad2:

B-but I must save up money for the scissor blade prop I want! :raritydespair:

Very fun game, also a warning for those who would buy it: The game can be VERY challenging, especially on higher difficulties. The rng in that game can kick your butt hard, as well as getting used to some of the time management mechanics early on. Other than that, it is a very, very fun game. Worth buying definitely, and is an outright steal for what it is priced at currently.

Reiterating what I said on another blog advising people to buy XCOM:
If you already have XCOM, install the Long War mod. It's like an entirely new game.

I don't actually have a steam account. The only steam game I have ever played was Age of Wonders, and that kind of got me. As much as I trust your judgement Blueshift, I'm not the worlds biggest fan of those games. My apologies.

Silly Blueshift, Asia uses moon money. We Americans use Mars money. Why else do you think we're so stereotypically violent?

Say hello to 12 fucking Chryssalids on the third turn, with that thing...

Does it work on an Android phone?
Or can I get it for Nintendo GameCube?
Are install disks available for my Compaq 286?
If not, do they sell it in board game format?

As I told Arad the other day, I'd love to buy it.... but my laptop DIED yesterday

Ah, memories of firing a shotgun at an enemy half a metre away and missing completely. :twilightangry2:

Darn right it's worth picking up though. I'd keep playing it even if it only had single player, but it has multiplayer too! Buy the game people, play it with your friends!

Yes to both of these facts! You are a facts machine today, Blueshift!

But-but I want to spend my money elsewhere... Even if just I bought more Steam money to spend...

Wait, are you saying you don't have a Steam account because you didn't like Age of Wonders or am I misinterpreting you?

2222456 No, I'm saying that I like age of wonders, but I'm not a big fan of computer games in general, so I've never gotten a steam account.

I have read 3 XCom crossovers and yours is both the most "game" and the funniest.

But it made me want to not play the game.

$13.61 in American dollars according to google. I don't have a Steam account, so...

I see. Sorry. It was just difficult to tell what you meant by 'those'.

No no, the many ways in which a mission can go horribly wrong and end up with most of your highly-trained squad coming back in bodybags is one of the funnest things in the game.

One of the expansions, Slingshot, was made with the aim of giving players a highly statted 'hero' character and the opportunity for more powerful tech earlier on, and the overwhelming response was "NO! NO! Make it HARDER!"

So much praise for this game, yet when I played Enemy Unknown on my PS3, I ended up trading it back in as soon as I could. The slow turn-based style of this game feels so stupid. We're talking about a squad-based shooter where you have to take turns and you have to hope and pray that your characters actually hit the enemy (most of the time they don't). I'm sure XCOM wants to be like Advance Wars, but AW is more appealing to me. Is it a better experience on a PC, where I can better manage things w/ a mouse/trackpad? Could I speed it up a bit? I'm really trying to see the appeal for this game, but no dice.

I genuinely couldn't see playing it on a console, games like that feel designed for keyboards and mice. Each to their own though, but generally I hate turn-based games (but loved X-COM)

I'm working towards getting a decent PC for gaming. I guess I'll try Enemy Unknown again, this time with patience in mind. I just get a little frustrated seeing so much hype for something I get no joy out of. But it's understandable, in the end. I'm a Metal Gear fanatic, myself.

Well this is a little awkward. I decided to get XCOM, but wanted to wait for a sale, saw the sale, started playing it, and only now check my feed to see a Blueshift telling me to buy it. Why must you give me all these strange feelings!?

8L is too damn much, that's like all the American Moon Money.

I love that game, and I love your story even more. It is one of the few that I have downloaded off of this site so that it will live forever.

I'm demanding "That's X-Com baby!" shouted at my funeral preferably by a 21 gun salute that scream "Shot wide!" after every round.
