I feel like I should write something.

Dunno what, not a continuation of any of my stories yet, just something to prime the pump. The plump pump. The pleasantly plump pump of doom.

On the art of Not Writing.

I've been in a weird limbo for the last couple of years. The simplest, and maybe even the most honest thing to say is that I've lost interest in writing, but that doesn't feel right to say. I have lost my interest, but I still want to be interested. I've wondered if maybe it's time to move on from MLP, but I don't know what I'd even move on to.

I like to ride my bicycle, I like to ride my bike.

    So.

Yesterday I decided that I wanted to take my shiny new mountain bike mountain biking. I obtained it through perfectly legal means (no, really) about two months ago and so far I'd only really used it for grocery shopping. Yeah, there was that one trip in the mountains about a week after I bought it, but that was only one trip and I'm getting fat.

    It really is.

Twilight Sparkle was humming to herself as she placed the last skull at one of the points of the pentagram on her basement floor when Rainbow Dash walked in, surveyed the candle-lit scene, said “Uh...” and backed slowly out again.

Twilight looked at the empty doorway, looked down at the pentagram, looked back up, connected the dots, and scrambled to catch up with her friend.

Have you read Dual Natured Change ? It's one my friend is writing about an exiled changeling trying to start a new hive herself.

How about What Didn't Happen? It's got time-travel, mystery, adventure, and Chrysalis is a major, major mover and shaker in the plot, plus changelings in both ally and enemy roles at different points. It starts with far future Twilight arriving back just before the appearance of Nightmare Moon. The problem is she was chasing another time traveler and they landed years before her, so everything is already off-kilter-- including the original Twilight disappearing:

I'm also pretty fond of Changeling Heart and The New Moon, but I'm aware it's not for everyone. Essentially the plot is that Luna has realized she's actually more in her sister's shadow in this new life than she was before so she sets out to do something spectacular. In this case, broker a peace agreement with the Changelings. Chrysalis is evil, but realizes she's hit the point where it might actually be a lot better than hostility because she doesn't think she could win anymore. The whole thing is endangered by experimental magic, Luna's instability, and Chrysalis having a hard time letting go of her Saturday- morning cartoon super-villain habits.

Since you liked This Date is Going to be Perfect, here's a couple comedy Celestia/Chrysalis fics. I think Advanced Lessons works better because it doesn't try to go too long and so can pack more comedy in:

Have you tried "Princess Celestia: The Changeling Queen?"

Or perhaps "A Voice among the Strangers" which is a human in equestria story that isn't necessarily ABOUT changelings, but features some prominently?

There's also "The King is Dead, Long Live the Emperor" which is an ongoing story about a Changeling going back in time, killing Sombra, and taking over the Crystal Empire. That one's pretty neat.

I've only read two, Integration and The Irony of Applejack, but I'd recommend both, particularly the latter.

Mendacity and Solitary Locust?

Thrown Abroad, and it's sequel My Little Changeling: Friendship is Weird.

About a drone that gets scape goated by Chrissi as being the one whose fault their failure in Canterlot was, and kicked out of the hive, having to learn to live with ponies in Ponyville to survive. It's hilarious.

Oh and Mendacity. A Bon-Bon is a Changeling fic that is so damn good. It treats the Changelings like Fae. Working the traditional folklore in with them really well.

Ahhhh I forgot to mention Mendacity! How could I forget to mention Mendacity?!

CDRW, you have to read Mendacity. It is divine.

Needs more Celestia.

Seriously, all those stories, and no Who We Are? Read it. It is probably the best changeling story. Or at least, it is my favorite. Well, unless you count Hard Reset.

Bonafide is a pretty solid Bon Bon is a changeling story.

There's Kaleidoscope, which is kind of a spoiler but oh well, it is worth reading anyway.

Derplicity is a fun story of Derpy being a changeling by Skywriter.

2215694
Arg, I feel the same. Mendacity is probably the best changeling story. At least I know how I forgot. It doesn't have Chrysalis tagged, so when I went to my favorites and sorted by tags it didn't show up.

2216130
Your 'best chrysalis stories you've ever read' looks so much like my favorites list sorted by her tag that only the different order clued me in at first that I hadn't ended up there. Eventually I noticed a couple that I hadn't put on there but had read (for example, Diplomatic Relations needs at least one more good chapter to convince me).

Therefore, I'm trying White Space.

2216130

O_O
Is it only coincidence that I've favorited literally ALL of the fics in your "Best Changeling" and "Best Chryssi" storiy lists? Or is something going wrong and it's taking me to my favorites with those characters tagged?

If it's the former, I guess I never realized just how much I get around in the fimfic community...

2214677 What Didn't Happen looks like it has the potential to be awesome. Definitely reading that one. Changeling Heart doesn't look like it's my thing though. White on Black looks cool too.

2214819 I tried the first one, didn't really like it. It has a cool premise, but I felt like the author tried to go straight for the emotional torque without taking the time to do proper set-up for it, and it just came across lacking.

A Voice Among Strangers looks like it has the potential to be something I love though. I'm a sucker for anything remotely resembling a First Contact story, and the upvote rating is encouraging.

I have actually just started The King is Dead, and it's pretty cool. Some of the stuff in it seems to come out of nowhere, but it doesn't bug me too much.

2215031 I should probably try An Affliction of the Heart. It's rated well enough, that's for sure. But the description just doesn't sound all that interesting.

2215203 Solitary Locust is awesome. Can't believe I forgot to add that one to my "have read" list.

I do need to try Mendacity though.

2215363 I started Thrown Abroad and got five chapters into it before quitting. I don't remember why though.

2215694 Well, that's three recommendations for Mendacity. Definitely going to check that one out.

2215841 We are always in need of more Celestia, especially "Celestia is a changeling" fics.

2215916 I've read Derplicity, and Bonafide, but none of the others. The Description to Who We Are reminds me of a fic I read and loved, but don't remember the title of, one where Pinkie Pie is a group of changelings on rotation.

2216130 Ah, it was When They Found Us. There's a few others on that list I forgot to mention I've read. Dat Hivemind, Daring Do, Hired Gun, and Black Angel. Oh, I never thought I'd run into another person who's read Algebra, Nightmare Moon, and Me.

2217492 An Affliction of the Heart is pretty decent. It's also better than the tag lines suggest, and it does have a lot of humorous moments. Might be worth a try at least.

Can't believe I left off Derplicity, which is one of my favorites.

And now I have a few fics to read: Mendacity, Who We Are, and Solitary Locust (maybe - I'm reluctant to start fics that haven't been updated in so long).

Personally, CDRW, I think "Integration" should be your first priority. Sooooo good. Also has one of my favorite portrayals of Chrysalis.

It turns out I had messed up the coding so that, sort of like Sombra's magic mirror, but not evil, the links took the clicker to their own favorites list. (I tried it while logged out, and then they took me to the highest rated changeling or chryssi stories on the entire site.) Anyway, it should work now: The Best Changeling Stories I've Read

The Best Chryssi Stories I've Read (Some Overlap)

2217832

And now I have a few fics to read: Mendacity, Who We Are, and Solitary Locust (maybe - I'm reluctant to start fics that haven't been updated in so long).

Well, Mendacity and Who We Are both finished. They haven't updated in a while because they're done, not because the author abandoned them, so that's still two out of three.

2218630
Hah, and just because it shuffled them into a different order than I'm used to I convinced myself that wasn't what happened? Amusing.

2218812 Sure. The parentheses were only for Solitary Locust. Even then I'm only reluctant, not decided.

I might recommend The Celestia Code Good story. Though changelings don't feature prominently at first, they do become a big feature later with some fan made history for them. Also features a sequel story (that I haven't read yet so anyone who has no spoilers please) called The Luna Cypher.

Others that come to mind maybe are the story Celestiphobia. Also the stories Queen No More and the sequel Hive Alive. I haven't read them personally but both looked interesting.

Last ones I got are the somewhat long but no less epic story The Irony of Applejack and it's still in development sequel The Advent of Applejack. I can vouch for the first being so epic my friend has adopted it as preferred head-cannon for any stories we role play together.

I hope those are interesting for you. i'm sure there's a few more I've read, but I can't think of any off the top of my head. I'll post more here if I think of them later.
