Criticism (Rating: Teen)

I think some of you people are confused as to what criticism actually is. Someone posted a story in a chat I'm in that was getting flamed a bit by some people, and it was constant bickering and swearing towards the author. It shouldn't be a surprise that this happens a bit on other stories too.

Let me be clear. First of all: if your criticism has swearing that is directed towards the author (EG: fuck you, you're shit at writing, suck your mom's dick, etc) then your criticism isn't needed and you can kindly leave it at the door. Secondly, when you're presenting criticism, give it some reasoning. If you're going to say someone has "bad writing," you need to give specifics. If someone has horrible punctuation that disrupts the flow of the story, then say it and provide some examples. Writers thrive on this so they can improve their writing. I also don't care how the author acts towards your criticism. Whether they take it negatively, with a grain of salt, or with open arms, it doesn't matter. What matters is giving constructive criticism that will help the author in the long run and then leaving the story.

I would give you guys examples of bad criticism, but I'm just going to be lazy and not do it. I'm sure you can easily identify when someone's being a dickhead about their critiques. I'm not asking you guys to make sure you're super nice, but at the same time, you don't need to be throwing your shit at people. Just be reasonable, mkay?
