Ah, bloody hell · 11:40am Jun 13th, 2014
I've written, for the first time ever, a scene that could be described as clop. (No, not for Conquering of Love, for that other fic I'm working on)
Actually considering releasing an alternate version of the chapter this takes place in when I put the fic out so people can choose whether they want the clean or dirty version. I guess that's a decent way of handling it. Just hafta know where to draw the line, because I do want to toss this one at EqD when it's all said and done. Honestly, I've never never really written erotic anything - my only attempt was a request for a "bonus scene" for a fanfic I wrote in like 1997 or so. Regardless, this was sort of freaking hot to write... :P
No, I am not changing into some massive clop author, I just thought "You know what, why not? I'll try my hand at it." and it has been a lot of fun. Writing shipping is something I've actually always done, so I guess it's no surprise. If you only know me for Conquering of Love, that's actually the anomaly as far as my writing, historically. I was writing only romance fanfic back in the early 2000's for anime like Tenchi Muyo and Sailor Moon. Before that, my work is so shitty it's not worth mentioning. Even the Tenchi fanfic is pretty questionable and short/forced.
It's so weird that My Little Pony has made me grow this much as an author. It's also absolutely bizarre that My Little Pony would be my first attempt at erotic writing since 1997.
Life is so weird. :)
Cheers til next time.
Yeah, you should probably make a clean version.
Writing a very romantic or even a sex-scene does not necessarily turn the story into clop. My best example for this is in Honey Pie II, where Pinkie Pie became a mare-friend of a changeling called Sweetcake. In this story, one of the questions that arise is... well... how are they gonna do sex/have babies? The answer is a very erotical scene (the only one in the whole fiction) where the whole problem is shown in first-person from Sweetcake's POV a-la-nature with gentalias, sexual emotions, and some talk between Pinkie Pie and Sweetcake. However, the focus is on problem itself and how it gets biologically resolved, and doesn't contain any detail that does not serve this goal. The story has the tag "Sex", and it's well deserved, but I would never classify it as clop.
I would say that clop=pony porn, which means that in a clop fiction, the main focus is to stimulate the reader sexually, usually by showing detailed sex scenes.

A well thought-out response, just as I'd expect from you.
And yeah, I guess classifying it as "clop" sort of distracts from the fact that the fic is a romance story, and the reason this scene exists is to build character more than just have a sex scene. It's actually a flashback from something that happened in Star Spinner's (The main character of the fic) past. The clean version leads the reader up to the point where things start getting heated and then, since the story is told in first person, we get him basically saying "I'll leave exactly what happened after that to your imagination. It would be best to say that it was one of those great memories that even the haze of a night of drinking couldn’t possibly wipe from my mind."
Leaving things to the imagination is fun, anyway.
Shame on thee.
