Cold Dark Place and Hoofprints in the Snow taken down... · 12:40pm May 31st, 2014

... but you can still find them here and by here (at the time of writing CDP has some missing chapters which I will restore sometime this week).

This hasn't been an easy decision to make, and I'm incredibly sorry for anyone who was invested in It's Not A Cold Dark Place. I have my reasons, mainly that many of the ideas I was writing about found their way into a novel I've been working on this past year-and-a-bit. The new story wouldn't exist without the response CPD got (honestly, I'm not even sure I'd still be writing today -- I was so close to giving up on writing altogether) so hopefully there is a silver lining there.

Sorry again.

Much love

EDIT: Password for both is pony

It's a wonderful concept that needs to be made it's own original novel, absolutely understandable!

It's sad to see these go, but I wish you luck with your novel!

Wow, I was thinking of turning some of my ideas into a non pony book... seems a bit hard though when a story is too invested in Equestria. Though Cold Dark Place wasn't... so huh.

Glad you're still keeping them available  I'm sure they'll be amazing.

I don't see why you can't publish a book that plagiarizes... your own work. :rainbowhuh: wut?

But whatever. At least you're not just pussying out and ragequitting the fandom, deleting your stories in the process.

Good luck with that book.

2161248 Strictly speaking quite a lot of the individual scenes had their origins in Cold Dark Place, but otherwise the novel has a completely different storyline (it's the adventures of a tiger cub, a wolf cub, and an ancient goddess -- the original version pre-dates FIM, it's something I've wanted to write for ages, aaaages!) . All fingers and hooves crossed it'll get a good response once it's all finished -- the ending's finally in sight!! :pinkiehappy:

2161259 Thanks man!

2161467 Thank you!

2161615 Hit the nail right on the head there. I couldn't see it at the time, but in retrospect it seems really obvious that I wasn't really writing fanfiction so much as I was writing an original novel which happened to have MLP characters in it.

It's a shame though. I was so looking forward to people reading what I had planned for the ending :ajsleepy:

2163092 Honestly, it's less to do with plagiarizing my own work -- I do that all the time -- and more to do with making absolutely sure that no-one new stumbles across CDP. People were still favouriting it as recently as last month or so, and every time someone did I felt like the worst person ever. I know I could've just cancelled it, but this seemed like a much more efficient way to me. People can't accidentally come across a story that they need a password for.

I couldn't ever bring myself to ragequit the fandom. True, there's a lot that creeps me out about it, and more than a few people who make my skin crawl. On the other hand it also means far too much to me to just up and leave all dramatically. There's too many people I respect here, yourself included. There's too many brilliant stories, artists, songs, re-mixes, reviews, everything under the sun!

I can definitely understand why some people are so keen to distance themselves from the fandom, but unless you messed up real bad then I don't see the point myself. Ragequitting wouldn't magically mean that my time here never happened.

2163190 Praise the sun. Finally someone who understands.

No seriously, you don't even know how much respect you just earned from me.

I still don't understand your reasoning though. You publish a book, become famous, then someone who read your book reads your story here and then... what? What's gonna happen? Oh no, this guy clearly recycled his own material! So what? Besides, anyone who could even make the connection would have to be a fan. Whatever, you seem to have more reasons that just that.

But yeah. Fuckin' neckbeards, man.

Sorry to hear that about CDP, but I'm looking forward to whatever else you publish!

Hey, when you get around to getting that novel published, tell me when and where I can pick one up.

It's a shame though. I was so looking forward to people reading what I had planned for the ending :ajsleepy:

So why not finish it once you finish your novel? I can dream, right? :rainbowkiss:(pun intended. :derpytongue2:)
