Dug TheSlorg, heh, love the name, of course that is if I got how the phrase sounded right.
You way of writing is unique. I couldn't edit my own work, even if I went away from it for a few hours and came back to it. It just wouldn't work.
Also, I'm quite surprised no one asked about OC's and how to I guess make a great story with good OC's.
I honestly didn't even know you were a prereader till I watched the vid. Umm, wonderful opinions and advice on writing regardless. I liked the panel and hope to see another vid from you guys next year. :3
And hope to maybe get some of my horrible writings could get pass your watchful eyes onto EQD.
So if I get you right, you wouldn't have a problem with any story going away from the canon or any story trying to create a separate sort of reality or universe that is away from the canon itself as long as it has an explanation?
2138049 Howdy!
Yes, the basic idea is that if there is something outside of canon, I'd like to know why. For example, Equestria Daily gets a LOT of shipping stories. Most of them fail to actually tell the story of how or why the shipped pair end up together. This is a no-no! Another example is if Rainbow Dash is suddenly swearing and getting into fights, there'd better be a good reason for it. Keep the characters canon first, then allow it to stray a bit.
That said, one of my current stories, Half Minute Horses, has Princess Celestia and Princess Luna borderline trolling Twilight Sparkle by having her try to save the world within 30 seconds and watching her die time and time again. There's a reason for it, I just haven't explained why in the story, yet.
2138057 Hey! :3 I watched the writing panel for the Babscon and they were saying that to write in whatever you basically feel comfortable writing in and start small. But whenever I come up with ideas, the more I think on them they only stretch longer and longer till it could written into a novel. How to write out a one shot without it extending into what possibly could be a novel?
I ask this because it is really hard for me to write one shots especially when I see the potential for them to becoming novel length stories. It also kinda hurts not being able to put out more one shots because of that reason.
Cool panel, bro. Gives me some idea of what I can expect from Sydney in a few months.
I've sorta learned how to self-edit over time, although I always have my trusty trio to go over my writing and pick out whatever they "think" is wrong with it. It's interesting to note that I'll quite often go with what they say because I find that a different viewpoint can sometimes save a story from being a total disaster—plot inconsistencies and stuff like that. I'm pretty good when it comes to grammar and mechanics; despite this, I always trust my friends to help me out. I value their opinions.
That guy wrote the Rainbow Dash microseries? Oh my god, no wonder it felt like fanfic. Also, you are not Australian at all, what :|
2138472 I'm as Australian as apple pie.
In that, it wasn't created here, but it can be found here.
Comic dude really runs with his questions... way longer than anyone else.
2139907 He warned us that he has a habit of going on and on and that we might just need to talk over him to get him to shut up.
He's a really cool guy though.
2140611 Heh. S'long as there was fair warning, s'pose it's all good. Did you enjoy the con?
