Testing, Testing, 1, 2, 3... nope. · 1:46pm May 19th, 2014
If I see one more episode of any damn thing where a student's refusal to even try is framed as the fault of the teacher- ugh.
I could have LOVED that episode, and all it would have taken was a bit of effort from Rainbow. An admittance that she was trying and it was hard and it wasn't working. It threads through the episode- even with what Fluttershy says when she breaks them apart.
Fluttershy: "Don't you have more important things to do? [to Twilight] Like prepare Rainbow for her big test?"
I almost NOPEd out of the episode right there. The line should have been:
Fluttershy: "Don't you have more important things to do? [to Rainbow] Like prepare for your big test?"
I get that people learn in different ways, and that a good teacher is creative in finding new ways to engage with their students. But it is important to take responsibility for putting effort into learning; Rainbow only starts making an effort at Fluttershy's play, where she's at least trying to understand what's going on. All I needed was a hint of that effort at the start, and an acknowledgement that when a friend offers to help you study they don't totally absolve you of the need to try.
Don't worry, I want to slap most of the main cast this series. I just hope the finale brings it back for you like it did for me.
Personal opinion is that it's the best episode of the season, but I'll let you watch it and decide.
2125286 The finale was awesome! I finally caught up over the last weekend, and I loved a lot of the episodes; this one just sat wrong with me. I felt like it existed in a weird middle-ground between a Twilight-focused episode and a Rainbow-focused episode, and ended up making Twilight responsible for solving Rainbow's problems because of it.
