Quick first-time blog post...
So, I feel incredibly lucky and definitely a little validated that my story was featured on EQD today. But there is something odd that I'm noticing: How is it possible that it could have more "favorites" than "thumbs ups?" Is that normal, or should I go see a doctor?
Anyway, it looks like people do at least find it compelling enough to follow, even if some don't particularly like it, I guess. :)
Sometimes when people Favorite your story they are doing it so they will get e-mail updates or just updates under the favorites tab.
^What he said. It's pretty common actually – one of my stories has been faved double the number of times it's been thumbed up. I think people just forget to rate.
(Tangent: I've always wondered why we have thumbs on a pony site.)
Faving is an expression of approval that allows you to "collect" a story in case you need or want to reference it later. Upthumbing is merely a gesture of approval. Inasmuch as one is additionally-functional and the other is not, it doesn't particularly strike me as odd.
It's us ol' vets sticking ta traditian, ya whipper snapper. Back in ye old days we had a track button which everyone used as a favorite and tracker. But then the Blessed Knighty decided to change things and thus tracking became favoriting and the watch later button was added...
And that's how Equestria was made
Aah! Yes, this makes much more sense now.
(The joys of discovering this fandom and this site in particular so late in the game, I guess... )
