    Words in print

Recently, I've been asked for permission by Avonder to include Whom The Princesses Would Destroy... in a story anthology he's putting together. I'm not one for hoarding words and I gave it quite, quite gladly.

    You'll find it here.

    Now(TM) with Travel Advice

I'm safely ensconced in my hotel room in Ludwigsburg. Hope to meet at least some of you. To increase the odds of this happening, I offer the following advice:

    Soon(TM)

I will be flying to Galacon 2018 in under twelve hours and I expect I will be safely in Ludwigsburg within 24 hours. I will be hard to contact during this period, though I think I've acquired a method of fool-proof Internet access no matter where I am (aside from six miles straight up, of course).

Hope to see many of you soon!

    Happy July 20th!

...or July 21st, depending on your timezone.

49 years ago the first manned Moon landing was accomplished. It is one of my favorite moments in history (To learn about my favorite you may have to wait for December the 9th), and to celebrate I've re-edited Hoofprints to be a little less... ah, draft-y.

Some magnificent things · 10:42pm May 15th, 2014

Hello my readers, fantastic and fun.

So I knew I said I'd blog more but then things got... complicated. I've had some rough times. That said, Ghost On Worldbuilding may happen sooner rather than later. All available distal appendages crossed.

In lieu of reparations I owe you all, I offer some magnificent things:

1. A fellow by the name of Latent Logic did a reading of Twilight Sparkle Makes a Cup of Tea. If you like that sort of thing, why not drop by here and give it a listen?

2. Bad Horse (he's bad!) lately did not one but three magnificent things[1]:

a) Self Image. This is pretty much my definition of a good sad story. I don't normally like sadfics but this, this is exquisite. There's no external force tormenting the characters, no extravagant tragedy, nothing but their characters as they are and one single perfectly captured moment of sorrow. It's a short story—at 271 words it's a vignette, really—but it wields each of those 271 words with deadly precision. Read it.

b) To shift the mood completely, Bad Horse also wrote an absolutely brilliant piece of black comedy called Bad Horse's Bedtime Stories for Impressionable Young Colts and Fillies. Read it and never look at classic fairy tales the same way again.

c) And to change the mood yet again (because Bad Horse's like that), he also wrote a subtle little piece about mistakes and what to do with them. It's called Keepers and it is well worth your time.

[1] He also wrote about a dozen of blog posts of absolute genius. So much genius, in fact, that, since I missed them the first time 'round do to aforementioned rough patch, I plan to go and re-read them and leave comments despite being incredibly late.

You've got your homework assignment cut out for you :)

You were right: those were good reads. And the Bedtime Stories was a riot! :rainbowlaugh:

I didn't see Self Image as a sad piece when I read it, but thinking about it, I can certainly see the sad elements. Huh.

In any case, looking forward to more worldbuilding whenever it may come.

I did a second reading to look for the sad stuff too, but all I could find was a pair of shipping goggles. :rainbowdetermined2:

Twilight finally gets to feel pretty, to indulge in her femininity... and then Rarity ruins the moment, reminding her that that beauty isn't hers. It's a quiet, private sort of sorrow, more :fluttershysad: than :raritycry:.

Bad Horse's style has become suddenly and unexpectedly deft. That was obvious in the Runyan tribute but then he put it to serious use in "Keepers," which story was like juggling sledgehammers and he pulled it off.

I think he's hit a watershed/inflection point/paradigm shift/[buzzword of choice].
