Mane Six Marriage Order Question · 6:47pm May 10th, 2014
Somepony asked me recently:
"Whom out of the mane six do you think would be the first to get married? I'm not asking to WHOM, just the act itself. Whom do you think would be last? Why those picks?"
Honestly I think Applejack would be first, as she would be the most direct mare out of the group to look for a companion-- but also because big farming families are a thing. She might feel obligated to have foals when the season of her life says so. Sure she's as a stubborn as an ox but she'd make a good mate if she decided to go find a stallion.
As far as who would be last, I think Rarity. Her goals seem to be set awfully high and she strikes me as the "waiting for Mr. Perfect (noble) Pony" sort. But in a tiny town like Ponyville there doesn't seem to be anyone that would match her tastes. We only see her flirt in cities, upperclass settings, and so on. Not so much as a passing glance at the "local stock". A close second would be Dashie, though. She's too set in her athletics to think about settling down.
So I suppose my order of getting married (given that no in-group shipping happens), from first to last, would be:
Applejack (big farm family)
Twilight (Princess, bound to be woo'd at some point... S5 anyone?)
Fluttershy (Big Mac shipping goggles... ON!!! :D)
Pinkie Pie (happy bouncy bride, as soon as she finds someone that suites her fancy and energy level)
Dashie (athletically devoted)
Rarity (waiting for Mr. Perfect Pony)
What are your thoughts on this topic?
AJ strikes me as the one who is most likely to have a foalhood sweetheart, maybe somepony she met in Manehattan, who is likely to jump out of the woodwork.
Twilight will doubtless be pressured to marry for duty but will be persuaded by Discord to kick duty down the stairs and elope with somepony she actually likes.
Rainbow Dash strikes me as the sort who is going to focus on her career for the next twenty years and probably marry when she's finally promoted to a desk.
Rarity will seek her perfect prince for years and will completely shock herself by marrying somepony so different from that ideal it's actually funny.
Fluttershy and Pinkie I can see both marrying unexpectedly, maybe even out-of-species because their hearts are really that open. I'm still in two minds about Fluttercord shipping, myself.
It's interesting that the only pony to ever express an interest in getting hitched is the one you rank last. Not that I disagree with your reasoning, I just find it ironic.
And yeah AJs probably going to get married first. Although she doesn't openly fantasize about it like Rarity, you can bet her future plans include a spouse and kids. It's all about family after all.
I'd agree that AJ would probably be the first. However, did you take Big Mac's role as the older brother into account? Perhaps he'll be the type to drive any potential suitors off. Or simply break them in half.
As for who would be last, I honestly think Twilight. She's only recently learned the value of friendship, nevermind companionship of that nature. Again she has an older brother to consider in the equation. Finally, royalty do not necessarily get married. Neither Celestia nor Luna have married. Cadence is more the exception than the rule.
Fluttershy, then Rarity, then Twilight. Then Applejack if she found the right pony. Pinkie and Rainbow are never going to marry, ever.
I think Rarity would marry before Twilight, personally. Possibly even Spike, when he's of age. Twilight would have to be hit by a 2 x 4 to realize somepony is proposing. Pinkie is too unpredictable to guess--first, last, somewhere in the middle--whatever it is, it will make sense to her and nopony else.
Fluttershy would be quick to fall in love, and pinkie pie would be implusive about it, plus she's part of a farming family!
Even though we're not asking to whom, AJ is probably the biggest question mark in that regard. That was one big reason I didn't like the trenderhoof episode: because we didn't really see what AJ liked in a mate or didn't like about trenderhoof.
First AJ, last Shy. Rest, I don't know. But I got my assumptions to how and to 'who'.
RD - some, maybe longtime friend. Years of friendship, friendship, friendship, and then suddenly, BAZAM! For long time it was more than friendship and he's the one, but she didn't noticed.
Rari - searching for mister perfect, and then she bumped into perfectly average, nice guy. Mr.Perfect totally forgotten.
Pinkie - some dates with smitten dude, third date, and she jumps with the "I like you, we should get married!".
Pinkie Pie first. As someone else said, she'd latch onto whoever she falls for really firmly. Also, she lives with the Cakes and I would think that her experiences with the twins would cause her to kind of want some of her own. It doesn't help she's impulsive to a high degree even though it all works out eventually.
AJ for the same reasons you listed with the caveat that she's not really currently looking. I say that because to AJ, family is everything - it's more important than Equestria itself sometimes and having someone join the family would be a long process. Probably start with working on the farm and end up having to drive a pack of timberwolves out of the orchard or something equally crazy. She's not looking for love, she's looking for a partner.
Rarity. Sure she's picky (as hell) but her career has her travel to paces other than Ponyville. Really, the only reason Rarity wouldn't is because she's not ready (her career is still in it's nascent stages in her mind). Now, marriage is fine but foals? HER?! Pfft, I don't see her being any sort of a mother. Marriage is fine for her.
Flutters last. She'd have to really be sure of the partner before making such a huge commitment (and probably getting cold hooves a dozen times). Really, if she is getting more confident, I could see it happening - eventually.
I really don't see either of the others actually getting married. Twily maybe for politics or something but she has her studies and such, she would never make time for it all on her own and I can't see Twily using her marriage as a political maneuver. Unless something changes drastically, I don't see it happening.
RD cares about one thing - her Wonderbolts career. She might get married last-last once she achieves all her goals but that is a long list of goals to hit.
Pinkie Pie First, just seems logical considering her personality.
AJ Last, she's too devoted to the farm and likely would not see the right guy if he held a sign right in front of her.
I think Pinkie's already found her one and only.
Except he walked into the sunset wearing a sombrero.
But I'm sure we'll see him again.
AJ I do agree that she'd probably be the first to settle down, and Flutters would probably go for a quiet, sensitive guy. If not Big Mac, then someone like him.
I have no idea about Rarity, Dash, or Twilight, though. Rarity has some pretty high standards, so she'd probably end up getting married later in life, and Dash strikes me as focused on her career, so same thing there. Twi's just an enigma to me.
That list seems okay to me, except I'd push Twilight down past Fluttershy and maybe after Pinkie too. Despite some wonderful fanfic, I think she might be too bookish and she'd probably see right through ponies trying to court her to get access to the title and wealth.
Obviously Twilight will be first, as her husbando has already appeared.
