Aegis Shield Update · 2:05pm Apr 25th, 2014

Hey guys,

Just wanted to stop and say sorry for the lack of updates lately. I lost my job as the front desk clerk at a hotel, and have been struggling to find work again. I was fired because an elderly couple came into the hotel at 1pm, asking to check in, when all our signs say check ins start at 3pm. (pardon me for upholding the rules that were literally pasted to the front of my desk on a metal plaque) While I would've thought this would have been a write-up for bad judgement, at the same time... the owner's daughter (who'd been out sick for almost a month) suddenly came back and needed more hours. Convenient. So I'm out on my flank, passing out job resumes at the moment.

In the meantime, I'm celebrating 2000 subscribers on my Dungeons-and-Dragons-style youtube channel. I just finished the special "2k Subs!" episode yesterday, if you guys would like to see some nonpony content from me. You can click the link below. :)

In the meantime, thanks for your patience and wish me luck in my new job search. <3

Vivas Noctus!

I hope you find the job you're looking for!:pinkiehappy:

2045424 One of my favorite authors is posting on my blog--- eeee! :rainbowkiss:

*throws Pokeball* :flutterrage::heart:

2045425 :rainbowlaugh:Pfff you're the favorite author here!

Ouch. Good luck on your search.

Nepotism: Fun for whole family! But seriously, that blows. I hope you find a good job soon, being unemployed sucks.:fluttershbad:
Don't worry about us, we'll still be here when you get back. Just do what you gotta do, man.

Good Luck on your job search! You and I are in the same boat right now!

I thought Nepotism was illegal?

Become a stock exchange speculator and buy the hotel. :pinkiecrazy:

Bleh. Sorry to hear that, man. I just recently managed to get another job after searching for 6 months. It's tough out there.

Are you going to go for a similar position, or try something new?

Isn't being fired for following company policy wrongful termination or something? Or was it just an "at will" employment (they can fire you whenever or any reason) type deal?

Anyway, good luck with your youtube channel!

2045677 Its an at-will sort of thing. You have to get your employer to sign a contract when you're employed if you want to require a reason. It makes you look bad in the interview, also. XP

2045585 Just gotta get my foot in the door somewhere. I already did the math, to get a job as a full-time youtuber I'd need about 64,000 watchers. Bleh...

2045512 If only...

2045480 Thanks for your support.

May you find a job twice as good as the one you just left, with a boss who has no close relatives.

Dude, Aegis, that bites about the job... if you want a helping hoof on that front, I can help you look.

That being said, take as long as you need. Real life comes first. The awesome ponyfic can wait.

You have a legitimate claim against that hotel for firing you. Not only did they fire you for a bullshit reason, you can claim you were canned due to nepotism, which is a violation of labor laws in most places.

Good luck on the job hunt.

That's harsh. :pinkiesad2:

I wish you good luck for the hunt.

Good luck at the job-search; the hire&fire-system sucks… :-(.

Moth's right. You have a case for wrongful termination, if you're willing to go forward with it.

Well if you worked for the hotel for any length of time I would see if you have a local transportation company. Mears is the most likely one but look around. After you find them look into getting a concierge position at a local hotel. If you can glad hand and are not to afraid of the occasional "Back Scratchey" kind of deals with local restaurants, shows, parks, whatever. It can be a great job.

You're the D&D stories guy!? I love your videos where you sit in front of a shelf of pathfinder stuff and a few dnd books, talking about grand adventures played out in Dungeons and Dragons.
I have many a times wished to be able to enjoy such grand adventures, but I have never been able to find anyone to play it with. I tried once online through roll20 but the DM was horrible. A grand example would be when he presented a couple of tamed dire wolves that had been magically bound to the floor as pets for us. Note that the party was already carrying around a dragon whelpling, a ooze in a bottle, our druid's animal companion, our sorcerer's familiar and a dagger with the ability to summon forth a spirit. (It was looking a lot like pokemon already) Me and the sorcerer decided that we were having none of that, so after a livid few minutes trying to convince the druid we all agree on killing the wolves for meat to feed us qnd the dragon (and cause free xp). What do the DM do? He makes the wolves chew off their own faces and die, then intantly rot. (This whas deemed as our party's greatest success) When the DM asked us about the the session and our opinions and suggestions the overal theme was more interactivity for the players as the entire 5 hour session have basically been us listening to his storyline and hurried from one plot point to the next with nearly no narrative and unbelievable carracters with no real point for us to even players to be there. Suffice to say, when we the players showed up for the next session the DM didn't.

But next time I might get a a DM who knows what he is doing. Or at least have read the core rulebooks.

In any case I hope you find a job soon.

PS: If I ever became a DM I would totally give my players the chance of finding Hector's Sword of Slaying as one of the very few magic items I would hand out.

¡That sucks! You could go to the Fair LaborBoard, but the Republicans have gutted it from its hayday when union-backed candidates created it. That reminds me about a joke:

¡A Libertarian is a Green who has not had to file for unemployment yet!

Libertarians and Greens both believe that people should do what they want as long as they do not hurt others. The big difference is that the Greens would rather have higher taxes for supporting a social safetynet, while Libertarians would rather have lower taxes.

Please file for unemployment and foodstamps immediately. Since one must fill out someteen forms for unemployment-insurance and someteen other forms for foodstamps, many ponies decide to put it off filling out the forms until they are out of money. Then they have to wait a few moneys to process the forms and end up homeless.

¡IT REQUIRES A FEW MONTHS TO PROCESS THE FORMS!

By the time the procrastinators get their benefits, which they earned by paying into the system for years, they are homeless. Get all of the forms immediately and fill them all out within a week.

¡I hope that you should find work soon!

Sorry to hear that Aegis. :fluttershysad: I wish ya the best in finding a new job where you're valued more.

Also, thought you might like this. It helps to know sometimes you aren't alone in getting screwed.

Sorry to hear about losing your job. From reading the scenario, it would appear you were fired unjustly. Even if your employment is "at will" you are still entitled to rights to prevent your employer from firing you unjustly. I would consider pursuing legal action if I were you.

You live in Minnesota now, right? I do as well, and from what I hear, lots of staffing agencies are looking for people to hire right now.

If you don't mind working in a production environment, you'll often be called in to work daily during the week if you show that you're a capable/hard worker. Pay for temps (temporary workers/workers from staffing agencies) can start at about $11 an hour. You can also usually apply for a job at the company/business the temp agency has been contracted to find employees for if openings appear. That's how I got my job, and it's pretty nice.

Try giving Doherty Staffing or some other temp agency a call or visit their website. You can even apply for these jobs online, no resumes or degrees required, unless I guess you're applying for a management/supervisory position.

Production floor work might not be glorious, but at least it's something. If you can get hired on with the right company, you can make a decent wage with some pretty nice benefits.

One thing I learned working in the service industry, is that the rules will never save you, if a customer complains.
I also learned that evidently illiteracy is a stupendous problem, considering how no one seems able to read a goddamn sign.

I'd say find a way to make the owner's daughter really miserable at her new job (a nice bottle or two of black india ink on the carpet would probably do nicely, preferably in plain view of the desk...), but that's time wasted that could be better spent finding a new one,

Being unemployed sucks :ajsleepy: , it's on the list of my fears, just above spiders. Anyway, with what I have heard in your D&D Stories series and read in your blog posts, you could probably try dropping your resume at business which may credit you for your clerical abilities :derpyderp2:. No, I am not talking about curing wounds or lighting up objects, I am talking about skills you have as a secretary which may require organizing documents or tasks which might include the basic use of computers. :pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy:

As a second choice, I could recommend going into the costumer service industry :rainbowhuh:. Simple jobs like being a cashier or taking the position as a sales assistant or even just a waiter. Do not be :flutterrage: afraid of the rumors regarding the behavior of consumers towards employees of the costumer service industry, just call for a supervisor, a manager or a team leader to deal with the problem :twilightblush:.

Hope this helps

Oh and by the way
As a last resort, Maccas ain't looking too bad when you become desperate bloke, mate. :pinkiecrazy::pinkiecrazy::pinkiecrazy:

2052762 Have you ever worked in a customer service position before? If you don't mind me asking.

2059993 Do you mean serving costumers or operating the registers? Then yes. Why might I ask?

2075968 Just curious since I saw your post. I've gotten a lot of bad customers during my time, and I was kind of skeptical of your claim that it wasn't so bad. But then again, maybe you've been luckier than I was.

Some days I questioned my sanity, on others I wondered how some people survived and were able to comprehend how to reproduce. You can see some pretty dumb stuff, so much so that you question your mental integrity and make yourself question how much faith you put in others or humanity in general.

2075990 I couldn't agree with you more. There will always be bad costumers around whether it be that one guy who would trade a bargain for some bad reputation or the run of the mill know it all who thinks and probably acts as if they own the shop and that they understand it better than the managers themselves. Heck, we might have been bad costumers at one point in time and we didn't know it. And as for lucky, me and my co-workers look out for each other, so if someone is in trouble then someone immediately steps in, assesses the situation and deals with it in a proper manner.

Generally it all boils down on the work place itself, if there are strong bonds forged between each worker then they can handle most situation. Except when a magpie manages to sneak through the back door.

Never lose faith in humanity, it's like digging for gold, you will have to go through tons of shit to finally find the good stuff.

As for reproduction, smart people know things like "contraceptive".

2077723 Yeah, if your coworkers are capable enough and you all get along, things go pretty good. It's just that we'd get tons of customers who, let's face it, were just plain stupid.

We knew how to deal with them, but it didn't make the encounters any less aggravating or stressful. Plus we started having issues with our new GM, so that took a toll on most of us.

It was a combination of external and internal forces that just made that job experience bad for me. I loved my coworkers, but I just got sick of dealing with all the drama and the idiots on both sides of the counter.
