Just a heads up: Building my new PC, update will be up after it's done! · 3:54pm Apr 13th, 2014
Hello there, pone fans. The next chapter of Just Before the Dawn is mostly complete, with just another section to go. We're gonna start kicking things into MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE soon, at least for a few chapters. Should be fun! I'll have it posted within the next couple of days, hopefully. In the mean time, I will be working on assembling my new computer.
Woohoo! I've had this current PC for nearly six years now, and while it's served me well, it's well overdue for an upgrade. So, after three months of buying parts and $1,200 or so worth of the best tech I could get my hands on, I am finally ready to put this puppy together. It's the first time I've done so, so I fully expect to spend an entire day doing so, but I'm excited to try my hand at it. It's like a nerd right of passage.
For those of you who are interested, the new specs are as follows:
Processor: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor
MoBo: ASRock 990FX Extreme9 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
SSD: Kingston HyperX 3K 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 770 2GB
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium
Cooling Fans: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
RAM: Ballistix 8GB DDR3
Case: Corsair 500R Carbide (Black)
Should be pretty beefy! Gonna take a while to re-download freakin' everything I have (games, mostly), but it'll be worth it. I'm super excited. Now I'll have hard drive space for even more pony. Oh yes.
Wish me luck! See y'all soon.
If it makes you feel better, I'm on 2Mb/sec. Downloading stuff off Steam is fucking painful.
I definitely don't cry myself to sleep when I see people posting speedtest results in the hundreds of Mbps though. At all. Nope.
Does anyone who uses their PC seriously for a living and/or knows what they're doing actually prefer Windows 8 over Windows 7?

Well Windows 8 is meant be used with tablet computers, but the problem is that since that is so new tech, those tablets are full of hardware issues.
Anyways we are currently testing different tablet computers at work and we try to figure out different scenarios where they could be most useful. In my experience those who have to travel a lot, find tablet computers most useful, especially if it is tiny model that can be tied to a hand with a wristband.
I would never put Windows 8 to any other device than tablet computer, but that is my personal opinion.
When I built mine it was roughly the same amount as well. But its WELL worth the time and effort, and if taken care of properly, will serve you well for many years.
But pray-tell...what are you using for the thermal paste? Hopefully NOT The standard issue that will come with your other parts i hope...that would be..unfortunate....and damaging

Probably not. Windows 8 is for tablets and shit. Not gaming. Plus, it's hilariously ugly.

Of course not! I bought some wonderful Arctic Silver thermal paste for just this occasion. And don't worry, I know not to smear it on like it's...a thing that gets smeared.

Arctic 5 Silver? Tis what I use myself. Well worth the expense too.
My Sasha is getting a bit dated...
