Night of the Shy (Revamp) Chap. 7 status update · 11:13pm May 22nd, 2012
So all the pieces are finally falling into place on this chapter now... 4,316 words into it. Again, I'd love to say before the end of May, but that might not be likely...I'm hopeful, however.
The thing that made this chapter such a bugger to organize was that it's another expository-heavy chapter like Chap. 3. Except instead of flat-out stalling the story in order to drop the exposition in - as, admittedly, portions of Chap. 3 do - I'm making a bigger effort to have the expository stuff slipped in while still advancing the plot. That turned out to be a bit trickier than my initial outline made it look.
But again, I've got it all worked out now, so it should be smooth sailing for the most part. Now it's mostly figuring out the right order to place the story beats for pacing, and keeping the delicate balance between the established character personalities and how I'm evolving said characters to fit the story.
I'm so glad to be at this chapter, though. Finally, the Adventure tag will actually mean something.

Last new Chap. 7 sample:
Her friends. That worried Sweetie Belle the most. Scootaloo had escaped – but to where? And the last time she had seen Apple Bloom...
No. Sweetie cringed. No, she couldn't think that. The fire had burned through the bones in the cage. Apple Bloom had gotten out. She had saved her grandmother. She was all right. She had to be all right.
But fire burned through flesh faster than it burned through bone...
“Deep in thought, are we?”
The filly jumped, suddenly realizing light had flooded into the chambers. She focused on Nightmare Shy just as the door to the dungeon shut, dropping the world back into a sea of almost nothing. Only sharp red eyes and a very faint outline of the possessed pony were visible in the dim, flickering light.
“Didn't even realize it had gotten brighter in here. You really are slow on the uptake, aren't you?”
Hopefully Chap. 7 by the end of May/Early June! No guarantees, though!
