Pascoite

I'm older than your average brony, but then I've always enjoyed cartoons. I'm an experienced reviewer, EqD pre-reader, and occasional author.

Pascoite gets bored and reviews anime, vol. 68

I started way too many new shows this season. D: 15 of them, plus a few continuing ones. Now my evenings are too full. ;-; Anyway, only one real feature this time, a 2005-7 series, Emma—A Victorian Romance (oddly enough, it's a romance), but also one highly recommended short. Extras are two recently finished winter shows plus a couple of movies that just came out last week.

Pascoite gets bored and reviews anime, vol. 67

Spring season starts today, though that doesn't stock my reviews too much yet, since a lot of my favorites didn't end. Features this week are one that did just finish, A Sign of Affection, and a movie from 2021, Pompo: The Cinephile. Those and more, one also recently completed, and YouTube shorts, after the break.

Pascoite gets bored and reviews anime, vol. 66

Some winter shows will be ending in the next couple of weeks. It's been a good season, but still waiting to see if the ones I like are concluding or will get additional seasons. But the one and only featured item this week is... Sailor Moon, after the break, since the Crystal reboot just ended.

Pascoite gets bored and reviews anime, vol. 65

I don't typically like to have both featured items be movies, since that doesn't provide a lot of wall-clock time of entertainment, but such is my lot this week. Features are Nimona, from last year, and Penguin Highway, from 2018. Some other decent stuff as well, plus some more YouTube short films, after the break.

    Time for an interview

FiMFic user It Is All Hell asked me to do an interview, and I assume he's going to make a series out of these. In an interesting twist, he asked me to post it on my blog rather than have him post it on his. Assuming he does more interviews, I hope he'll post a compilation of links somewhere so that people who enjoyed reading one by

More readings & what I'm up to · 3:29am Apr 13th, 2014

There have been a couple more readings of my stories!

I don't listen to too many readings, so I have no idea where these fall on the quality spectrum, but I sure appreciate that people enjoyed the stories enough to put them together.

I'll plug Scribbler's great reading of But You Surpass Them All again, because she's so awesome!

The Living Library Player Society has recently recorded a reading of A Hiccup in Time.

And some time ago, user TheArchitect did a reading of Teacher's Pet.

And on to other matters...

It's been a long time since I did a post talking about what I was working on, since I also tried to say when those things would be done, and I'm horrible at keeping to a schedule. So no time frame attached to these, but I'd still like to provide a peek at my to-do list.

Ready to publish, but waiting for them to filter through Equestria Daily's review queue
"Only Skin Deep" [Dark] Winner of The Write-Off Association's "The First Step" contest, since revised.
"He Kindly Stopped for Me" [Sad][Slice of Life] Very old unpublished story that I revised and refocused as an entry in AugieDog's Luna fic contest, then revised again.
"If Memory Serves" [Sad][Slice of Life] Winner of The Write-Off Association's "Lonely Happiness" contest, since revised.
"The Good You Might Do" [Sad][Slice of Life] Second-place winner of an old /fic/ write-off from nearly two years ago, "Sweet Music," and since revised.

Lot of [Sad][Slice of Life], huh? Go figure.

In progress
"Until Forever" [Sad][Slice of Life] Also about two years old. Finally picked up what had been a very tricky premise to do right and tried to revise it with a different approach. We'll see if it works.

More [Sad][Slice of Life]? Jeez...

On the horizon (written, but needing work)
"Control Freak" [Dark] Corrupted Twilight story, 7 chapters long. It's actually finished, but I'm in the process of completely gutting two chapters, redistributing what scenes and information I want to keep of those among the other five chapters, and deciding what else to write in the empty spaces.
"Perchance" [Slice of Life] 750-word minific that placed second in /fic/'s "The Price of a Dream" mini write-off. I'd like to stretch it into a one-shot if possible.
"Duet in the Folk Style" [Romance] Shipping story I wrote over 2 years ago and never published. It started as the desire to write something open-ended that would ramble on for 30 chapters or more. I got stuck after chapter 4. Now I have an idea to wrap the thing up in another 2 or 3 chapters, but with it being that old, it'll need a rewrite for quality anyway.
"Veneer" [Slice of Life] 750-word minific that placed third in /fic/'s "For Old Times' Sake" contest. I'd like to stretch it into a one-shot.
"Curse, Bless, Me Now" [Adventure][Dark] Unpublished noir-ish detective fic that tied for 7th place in the /fic/ "Cutting Ties" write-off about 2 years ago. Needs a lot of new material added, not to mention revising what's there already.
"Twilight Sparkle's Final Exam" [Adventure] Twilight still has to get her degree, after all. I actually wrote this over 2 years ago, long before all this Twilicorn stuff, and finished a prologue and two chapters, but never published them. The original intent was to have a prologue, 5-6 chapters, and an epilogue, but I cut the 5-6 chapters back to 3 and still got stuck on a plot for the third. Actually, that story I already mentioned, "The Good You Might Do," was going to be the third chapter, but it did so well that I wanted to let it stand alone instead of burying it in the back end of another story. So I still need a third chapter and an epilogue, but I at least have an idea now. But of course something that old needs a quality upgrade, too.
"In Need of Healing" [Sad][Slice of Life] 400-word minific that tied for first (kind of) in TacticalRainboom's first minific contest. I'd like to take a crack at stretching it into a one-shot.
"More Than the Sum of Her Parts" [Normal] Side story to "My Funny Sister" which was written not long after it. Yeah, it's that old. I never revised and published it, but I'd still like to.
Give "The Promises We Keep" a rewrite to fix the mistakes I made as an inexperienced author, mostly as a labor of love for wifey.

On the horizon (unwritten)
Unnamed sequel to "Author, Author!" wherein we see what Celestia does with her new responsibility.
Additional chapter for "Pilgrimage" wherein we see that Apple Bloom's issues aren't all quite resolved yet.
Planned Octavia/Celestia friendshipping story.
Planned Celestia story, may work best as a minific.
Planned Celestia/Luna story that I'd probably try as a minific first, then maybe stretch into a one-shot later.
Planned Rarity/Applejack comedy/friendshipping.

Maybe
"A Trick of Memory" [Slice of Life] 750-word minific that placed 10th in /fic/'s mini write-off "For Old Times' Sake." Pinkie/Gilda friendshipping that I like, but it might be too hard to stretch into a one-shot.
"Breaking the Silence" [Sad] A story that I basically wrote as bait. It's to /fic/'s credit that it did so horribly in its write-off, though I might still try to make something of it.
Possible Scootaloo/poison joke [Dark] or [Dark][Comedy] story.
Possible Apple Bloom/Big Mac [Slice of Life].
Possible Octavia story for the Humanverse group.
