Quick thoughts on Season 4

I've watched through Filli Vanilli, and I gotta say... I'm really liking it so far.

Probably my favorite episode of the bunch so far is Pinkie Pride. I like pretty much all of the music in it, and it was a really interesting take on Pinkie's character.

I'm also really pleased as to how the whole Twilicorn thing is being handled so far. The show doesn't feel like it's lost a step or anything as a result of Twilight's gain of a couple wings.

So yeah. I don't quite like this season as much as seasons 1 or 2, but it's definitely been better than 3 in my opinion.

Definitely better than season 3, on the whole, and not just for the increased length.

I may even like in more than season 2 as a whole, despite Twilight's boring roles and lines. Poor girl's become a cardboard sheet to keep up with the stupid princess thing.

Back to that matter at hoof, though, the episodes have had some... simply boring and predictable parts, but I still tend to enjoy them more often than not. In season two around the second half there were some shaky episodes that either didn't make sense or had poor characterization.

Season 3s a better poster child for that than 2, though. Most of those poorer episodes in s2 were done by Merriwether, and they're the reason I don't typically hold s2 over s1, despite such gems as Lesson Zero.

But s4? Definitely an improvement. I'd argue that the latest episode was the best paced episode we've had, period, in the series. It's not the best overall or my favorite, but the way the scenes all moved along was incredibly smooth and easy to watch. I loved it. It felt like a really well written piece and I appreciated that.
