Seriously, though, I am pretty sure that "Anon" is my biggest pet peeve on this site, along with 2nd person fic (reader/self insertion) and HiE.
I know the Anon thing comes from 4chan, but would it hurt so much to give the character a name?

I kid, I've read a couple that were well-written, but I still didn't like them. I don't think humans belong anywhere in the G4 mythos. Equestria Girls did well in keeping then quarantined and stating that it was a rare occasion and a specific magic item that allowed passage to and from said quarantine zone.
The issue here is that most HiE IS self-insertion. Either that or it's the awful TCB stories that would probably hit at #4 on my list.
I'm just avoiding stories with the name "Anon". At least give him the generic name John/Jane Smith if you want to be lazy.
The best HiEs are the crossover HiEs, especially ones that make use of the other IP's characteristics in a well though out way (yes I consider crossovers HiE, sue me), like Pony Space.
The only others are themed HiEs, where it isn't just "random modern human in Equestria" but has something to say like the Youth in the Garden.
But yeah, most of it is shit.

Oh yeah, I don't like crossovers either. Feels like... you're already basing a story on an established universe, why not just go 100% lazy and use 2? Welcome to crossovers, where the crossover is either inexplicable, or we had to create a completely unbelievable set of plot points to make it work! Woohoo!

I am just extremely picky. I dreaded the day when I would put my changeling OC's into TCoL because I dislike most OC's, too... so I knew I had to make them interesting. I sort of dread writing them. Though Linnai is easy to write, she's just a vindictive bitch.
I would make an "OP is a faggot" joke, but I don't want to offend anyone.
