One Is the Loneliest Number That You Ever Knew

Two can be as bad as one
It's the loneliest number since the number one

No is the saddest experience you'll ever know
Yes is the saddest experience you'll ever know
'Cause one is the loneliest number that you'll ever know
One is the loneliest number even worse than two, yeah

It's just no good anymore since you went away
Now, I spend my time just
    Making up rhymes of yesterday

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky

I feel super cringe for posting yet another self-hype blog, so I'm gonna borrow a bit of Tolkien's goodwill to get through it.

January 2, 2023. Three days. Peace.

    Best,
    GentlemanJ

So Much Class, It Could be a School (And More!) · 11:56pm Apr 6th, 2014

Ladies and Gentleman,

Commissioned from the artist gavi-gavi by reader MagicalTrevor, I present to you art so classy, it should be having tea with the queen.

This is beautiful, and I mean that in a very literal sense of the word. I don't know the artist did it, but the effect comes across as a cross between cel-shading and watercolor for a modern take on a traditional Chinese silk screen (and if it isn't clear, I think that's absolutely baller). The colors all sort of harmonize with a consistent earth tone to give the piece a weather-worn feel, just like the subjects in the picture.

And the subject. My word, they look classy. With just enough detail to showcase the artist's skill, but not enough to detract from the almost other worldly air, these people look absolutely fantastic. The Tabire is quietly fierce, and even though you can't see Graves's eyes, the sharpness of his face and the set of his mouth give off that sense of pointed clarity that we know he has, especially with that pose. So calm and casual on the dismount, with coat fluttering beside him, Graves still gives off that air of composure and stable balance, even as he elegantly lands on one foot.

And is that a koi fish? I DON'T THINK YOU UNDERSTAND! I FREAKING LOVE KOI FISH!

BILLY MAYES: BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!

Just now, I got news from Intrapulation that the first ever reading of The Journey of Graves will begin soon. If you're interested, check out his introductory video where you can hear him read my incredibly pretentious goals for the story. Maybe it's his Blueblood voice, but gosh, I can't believe I sound like such a goober.

But yeah, a YouTube reading is coming soon! Woop!

We must give credit where credit is due and this piece of art deserves credits. So. Many. Credits.

I wholeheartedly concur.

Took me awhile to find her, but yeah, Gavi blew me away with this. X3

So... Where can I get a print of that to hang on my wall?

1986798 uhh... Lemme ask her if she can make it a print.

1986842

I'd go up to $30. But I don't have a paypal, so she have to take a money order. Shipping address would be done in private.

-Jelly-

But seriously, it is an epic looking picture.

1986892 Well, first, here's the link to the DA.

She offered to send me the PDF of the file as well, so there's a chance I could get a better size via that avenue. I'll get the file and see what they'd charge for various sizes. (Is there a specific size you'd LIKE? How big is too big and how small is too small?)

This picture... it's too awesome. I must have it on the side of my house so people passing by will bask in its glory.

I'm having trouble remembering. Though I have my theories, I'm not certain. What creature is Graves with in that picture and is that a scene from one of the stories?

1987665 Nah, man. It's a Tabire, and it's from a tabletop game MagicalTrevor plays. He recreated Graves in the game and gave him an epic battle cat because. :rainbowlaugh:

Has someone been Hexperimenting (Using magic just to see what happens) on Opal?
An exquisite image indeed, but is Graves jumping off the Tabire (is that what it is called?), because if so, isn't he about to get wet feet?

1988071 Bitch please. Like having wet feet is something that Graves worries about. XD

1987665 No, it's from Dark Heresy, a tabletop R.P. game in the Warhammer 40k universe. I got permission to have Graves be 'reborn', so to speak, as well as Rarity. (Though she's an NPC, since you can only control one character.)

I'm almost tempted to try to write everything out that happens in the game out as a story on DeviantART, but I'm not sure what potential copyright infringements that could be. (meaning I don't know if the G.M. has made this story up completely, if he's only taking some ideas, and is using creative liberties at points to make stuff fit, or if we're following a G.M. guidebook, with few changes/alterations.) I'll be finding out, because if it IS mostly original, then I might be able to post it, giving the right crediting and whatnot, but if not... Then I can't make it a story. I'd only be able to say what happened, and that isn't QUITE as fun as turning it into an actual story.

(also, GentlemanJ, forget to calculate enemy dodge into the thing we were discussing before, so he'd go for accuracy to help reduce the enemy's chance to dodge, especially since there's an ability that he can get that will increase his range anyway. He only had 85% chance to hit because he caught them by surprise, so there was no reaction check.)

Point to the man with the marvelous name, but three things in fairness, although they are rather anal retentive points:

1. It looks like he's about to step on the fish.
2. There is nothing more unpleasant than walking long distance with wet socks.
3. What if rarity made those trousers for him? She'll be cheesed off having him return with pond water stains in them. They never come out, trust me on this.

1994790
1. Naw, the fish is going to dodge btw. the two stepping stones ahead of it, see?
2. The water isn't THAT deep. Any water drops that managed to get OVER his boots would only be a few drops here and there, so it would get on his trowsers, not socks.
3. I believe it was established in story 1 that Rarity can get rid of stains. :raritywink:
(Not that she'd be PARTICULARLY pleased with him, but since she understands his job is dirty at times, I'm sure she'd forgive him eventually. :duck: )

1994798

1. Ok, acknowledged, it originally looked to me as though he was propelling himself forwards as he fell, but he may not be now I look closer.
2. Look closely at his boots. The shading suggests laces or buckles, meaning they are permeable.
3. Oh yes, I do remember that now I dwell on it. Still, it's one hell of a stain, take it from a former junior gamekeeper, especially if fish have been in it for any length of time. It's nasty trying to get fish doings out by hand.

1994821
2. ... Alright. I'll grant you that one. XD At least in part. Still, this is GRAVES we're talking about. There HAS to be a reason he's doing it. We just... don't know what it is. XD
3. Yeah, it WOULD be nasty doing it by hand... Thank Celestia, Luna, Discord, or whichever deity you want for magic! (I don't want to think of what all the previous stains were in Graves' clothes in story one, if there were that many...)

1994829

2. Well, considering the setting, he's either doing something involving ninja's, a diplomatic mission, or is taking rarity on a date, although the last two options pose the question of what he's doing with that gun. However, I say the date idea is quite plausible when considering "Casino Battle Royale".

3. Yes, it doesn't really bear thinking about does it?

1994912 The setting? Oh, right, you don't know about the R.P...

tl; dr, this is a Warhammer 40k R.P, and the world they're on was A) colonized a long time ago, mostly by noble families of Japanese descent, and then B) was sealed off by a veil. They had a dark age, where most of the super advanced tech was lost, though they still have a few things, and have rediscovered tech like repulsar craft. (Allows stuff to fly in atmospheres/non-atmospheres that have little/no air to fly in. (since helicopters need air to, you know, fly.)) So yeah, everything has an Asian theme. Graves himself looks a bit Japanese in the R.P, but this picture did a great job of not showing the parts of his face that would really show that unless you know to look for it.

1995091
How very odd. Interesting though... What about Macro-Opal there?

1995738 It's a race called a Tabire. This one is from the Moon Clan, which are larger then the remaining three Clans. Graves Kabla (His last name in the R.P.) is of the Steed clan, as they value agility, are the most manly, as well as gain an additional half-action a round in combat if they forfeit their parry/dodge roll. For background I rolled Animal Companian, so due to the clan Graves was from, that's who he bonded with. If he were from a different clan, he'd either get a Dawn or Shadow Tabire (Cats the size of very large dogs) or a Blood Serf. (Family who swore their lives to a noble family, usually for protecting them from death, famine, etc. The serf would either become like a butler, managing lots of small details for the character, or they would be a bodyguard, which would be an NPC, basically.)
