New First Steps Chapter · 5:20pm Apr 6th, 2014
Steel Resolve and I just finished up a new chapter for the Mailbox follow up story, First Steps. I'm very happy with the Pinkie in that story, so if you have any hankerin' for a Pinkie/Rarity romance, it's there for you.
You should be come a fulltime ship-person.
1985950 I'm not really sure I have the chops for that. This story is really the only thing I've done where I feel comfortable writing a romance.
I'm not sure any of us 'have the chops' for it; but we do it anyway. I think that you could show some very interesting relationship aspects simply because of how you write Pinkie.
1985965 Well, I am thinking about writing a shipping story that continues with these characters. Something that happens after this story has concluded. I feel strongly attached to this Pinkie and this Rarity. I need to finish up my Trixie story first, but I think I'm going to spend some time on that story afterward and see if it goes anywhere.

For fun, you should see about trying her with the other 4. just short little things to look at the inherent differences and interactions on a romantic level. I think you'd be great.
I can tell you who she ain't gonna be dating: Cheerilee.
I still need to read that one. So much stuff I need to read. I will make more time eventually. I love Pinkie Pie and I really do think she has an interesting dynamic with Rarity.
Plus I agree that she's so much more than a walking punch line.
1986207 Well, if you want to see her un-punchlined, that's the fic for you. I wanted to flip her totally around from that dynamic. I started her off as super-Pinkie, because that's where she was in the Mailbox letters. Just as Pinkie as she could be. Then I slowly tried to wind her down to what I consider the real Pinkie. An emotionally needy, self-aware Pinkie Pie who knows that she's a bit strange but can't help who she is.
Also, I keep trying to make it Rarity's story, but everyone insists that it's Pinkie's story. It's a really weird thing for me.

Sounds magnificent. I approve.
1986231 Then git ta readin'!

Damn it, no. I need to get back to writing about Flim and Flam having an awkward conversation about Applejack with Trenderhoof. I'm already putting off enough fandom related stuff as it is.
1986272 I totally need to write a Flimflam brothers fic. I love those guys. There dialogue would be amazingly fun to write.
1986276
It is! I only started writing some fanfiction with them recently (hell I am juggling three brand new ones that they're in, and this third one I started March 28th is already 20K words, by OpenDocument's estimate), but it's like they write themselves.
The weird thing is I don't think I've even differentiated them strongly in my mind, but I don't feel like that's made anything seem off just yet. I consider them individuals, but they often have the same goals and they share similar perspectives, so it just makes sense that they're often on the same mental page.
And I have since inspired at least one person on here to write a fanfic with a duel between them and Trixie. Another person I may or may not have convinced to switch a story idea into being about them. If they do write that with them as the heroes, I would be super pleased, because it would be a really strange but interesting plot for them to be the stars of (it involves being transported to an AU with horrible ramifications for unicorns and I thought they'd be more interesting than Rarity as fighters for equal unicorn rights, though I suggested them and a few others besides. Rarity would still be cool in that role though.)
Of course, I'm putting off writing a bunch of other stories... I also have plans for a story where Discord more or less accidentally breaks Cheese Sandwich with mental manipulation... And they both live to regret it. But I haven't really started it yet. So much to do.
Plus I promised to read a few things for some peeps, one for proof-reading and then another for a review at some point (technically two reviews but one I already read and just haven't finished it.) Glargle... How did I become in demand?
I am the mistress of works in progress. And for some reason it's the Apple family stories that I just fart out and which I'm most likely to complete. I blame Season 4 for corrupting me with super Apple influence.
P.S. Flim and Flam are going to sell Princess Twilight Sparkle a couch. Please don't steal that from me.
Or do. You might make it amazing. It's kind of a side-note in this story but I loved it the minute I thought of it.
1986455 Oh, I'm up to my eyeballs in stories, so I don't really have the capacity to steal ideas right now. I've got way too much of my own to write.
However, I do think that would be amusing, but I'd be tempted to use Luna. Luna seems a little more innocent, and therefore a better mark for the two. However, she can see into dreams and understands motivations and mental nuance far more than those two ever will. Watching the tables turn mid-fic would be amusing.

I haven't read the micro-comics, but apparently Luna briefly interacts with them in the Rarity arc, so she would already know in that instance. Outside of it, I agree she seems innocent but would probably pick up on it pretty quickly. Plus, I too for some reason thing pairing them with Luna in general could be used to great effect, though I'm not sure why, other than the above. (And I guess the fun being doubled.)
Because of the way my story is structured, the joke is they're on the up and up, for once. They're briefly hired on at Davenport's, where the quills ran out again. So Flim and Flam decide to try selling her a couch, just to see if they can, and it works. But it's a minor scene.
If I were making it something bigger, I'd do it differently.
But yeah plot bunnies are pretty rampant.
